I just installed Type R coaxials front and back. I wanted to get the components up front, but i couldn't afford it. My question is, has anyone else done this? The tweeter pushes on the factory speaker grill and makes the plastic rattle a little if you listen really close. is there any way to fix this?? I looked and I can't figure anything out. Also, I have a set of tweeters that I was going to put up front, but I have factory tweets (not infinity) up there and I was wondering if I could just pop off the grill? TIA guys!

I'd give you two suggestions. Get out your dremel tool and mill out the door panel or the mounting pod. Either one should give you the proper clearance, but you will probably have to do both.

am i just a dork that spends too much time in the audio section....or is this a deja-vu thread? seems like this same exact question was asked about a month ago. i could be wrong or drunk though.
anyways...... is the problem that the tweet grill is vibrating against the door grill? if that is the case, you might be able to glue on a little felt or fabric around the edge of the tweet to dampen it a little. you definatly dont want to lay the fabric in the path of the sound waves from the tweet (well...actually i HAVE done this before sort of as a reverse aperiodic type thing for harsh tweets, but i digress) but if you have enough room around the edge it might be easier then dremmeling. you might even be able to put some speaker grill fabric in front of it...that wouldnt effect the sound too much (if at all) and would provide an adiquate barrier to prevent the rattling.
other then that, audiophyle hit the nail on the head.

Well, I already dremeled (is that a word?) out the plastic pod to make the speaker fit. Other than that I really don't have much more to work with. Are you talking about shaving the plastic where the speaker mounts to make it go deeper into the door? I thought about doing that. I don't know exactly what is rattling; both the door and the door panel have been fatmated (another made up word) with extra attention around the speaker grill on the panel. The tweeter pushes the grill maybe 1/4" out from where it should be on both sides, but only the driver's side rattles. I don't know what to do Thanks for the help though guys. If you have any more suggestions let me know. I will try the felt thing.

Here's another suggestion: Get out your router and make a speaker ring for the door out of 3/4" MDF. Remove the black ring for the stock speakers and then mount the new mdf ring to the door panel. The 3/4" space will give you the clearance around the window and will also eliviate your spacing issue.
If I can fit a pair of 8" subs in my door, you should be able to fit a pair of Type R Co-axil speakers.
