how hard is it to make one of your own? can't you get the necessary current to run a siren or two and pain generators off of a regular dry cell battery (not car battery). then simply use a spst NC relay with a constant 12v source across the coil. that way when the battery in the car is cut, the relay closes and sends power to the sirens from the backup battery. idk the price tag on DEI sirens w/ backup battery doesn't seem to justify it to me. the only problem i can see is you'd have to check your batteries occasionally and disconnect when you work on the car. or also i guess if your relay burned out from being activated all the time and it triggered the sirens...

backup batteries are a pain in the ass if you have a problem with your alarm. My alarm brain went bad and I had to drive to circuit city with my alarm siren blairing.

Why go through all of the trouble trying to make a siren with a back-up battery?

Go to Circuit City and have then order you a siren with a back-up battery. Cost should be around $40, maybe a little less.

I've installed one of them into my car and they are easy to install.

b/c it's cheaper... plus don't those units have a limit on the battery life? is it built into it or is it somethign you can easily replace. when i had my alarm installed that was one've the drawbacks and why the alarm guy kinda didn't really suggest adding it.

i did my remote windows myself for about $10. the DEI unit costs like $40-$50 (i don't think most people could hook that one up themselves). plus i got to set it up exactly how i want. idk i like doing stuff myself.

sounds like a good idea to me. if you know how to wire the relays for the window roll-up thingy i dont think it will be any challenge to do what you are thinking of. as you mentioned earlier though, you would need a way to disconnect it from the rest of the electrical system. perhaps a hidden switch? i say you go for it....just make sure to give us a write up when you are done.
