Ok this is probably an easy question but I'm trying to put a head unit in my 98 GS with the Infinity system. Now my first question is, I don't think I need a wiring harness, do I? I'm running new speaker wire to all the speakers to bypass the stock amp and I was thinking I could just cut off the power, ground, etc. from the stock harness and splice it into old harness I have from my other car. I hope that makes some sense... I wanted to get some people's opinion before I charge at my car with wire cutters. My second question is, what wire do I run to the tweeters? I was thinking I can splice the front 2 speaker wires and just use those. I may be a total dumbass and not know what I'm talking about so anybody with any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton!!!

you are absolutly correct about your install questions.

im pretty sure that the tweeter/door speaker are run in parallel of the same wire. the tweet is tapped into the wire that runs to the door, and a capacitor is used as a simple 6 db/octave high pass filter (dont know the frequency). in other words, if you wanted to keep the stock tweets and have them still functional, you can simply find the crossover modual (the cap might actually be slodered on to the speaker itself, im not sure) and tap into the new wire you are running. as a bit of advice though, this will probably not sound good, as the stock tweet is not designed to take a lot of power, and the additional load placed on the headunit by this speaker (although unlikly) MIGHT cause the headunit to overheat. if you really wanted to keep them, perhaps you could get an L-pad (any electronics shop has these), which is a volume control that goes in-line with the speaker wire.

Like he said ^^^^^^. The only thing I am adding is I would recommend buying a wiring harness for the new HU. Only reason is if you decide to sell the car re-install the factory HU, It would be that much easier. But that is just my opinion and splicing would work fine if you would rather go that route.

I second what both have said above. I would get a waring harness because if you want to sell the car later or get a better HU then it makes it alot easier. Good luck man. Let us know how it goes.

With the Infinity setup, the harness only does power, so if you want a harness for 3 wires, go ahead. As far as the tweeter wires go, at the amp there are separate wires for the tweeters and front, making 6 sets of speaker wires. Your best bet would be to do like SPL_Eclipse said and get a passive x-over and put it in. If you don't want to do that, just make sure you put the front speaker and tweeter in series so you don't kill the radio.
