#5400, "Easy question!! Need quick response please!!!"
Hi guys. I just got a 98 GS yesterday and I want to put in my old head unit. I was wondering how to remove the stock one. I played with it some but haven't really looked at it closely and was wondering if anybody could tell me how to do this. Thanks

its been a loooong time since i even had a stock dash in that area, but i believe that all you need to do is pop of the balck cover over the HVAC and radio (its just held in with clips), then youll see a bracket around the radio held on with four screws (one at each corner). remove the bracket, unplug the harness and antenna from the back and pull it all out.
somthing tells me it wasnt that easy though, you might have to remove on or both of the side panels (to the inside of where your legs are). those just have a cap in the middle that pops off and a screw underneath. youll see it.
if you need to take out the center consol, thats easy as well, just lift the area out that has the ashtray/drink holder (it pops right out), then remove the two screws under there. slide the front seats forward and look behind them at the end of the consol. on each side there will be a cap to pop out, then a screw underneath. having removed the black trim, you can disconnect the connector for the cig. lighter harness. then you just slide the consol toward the back of the car and manuver it around the parking brake, then lift it out.
dont know if all this is necissary, thought id be thorough though.
