I'm just now getting into the car audio on my 2G. I have a 500/1 JL Audio amp, and a 300/2 JL amp. I should be able to run both of these off of my car battery right? This guy at school tried telling me that I need another battery but he is pretty gay anyways. Also, when you are putting DynaMat into the hatch of are cars, do you undo all of the wires, then put down the mat and hook them all back up or can you just DynaMat right over top of them? I was amzaed to see the shitload of wires and whatnot that the 2G has in the hatch. PLease if you could help me by replying it would be great. You can also email me at Matt2GNT@Comcast.net because I usually post on the Exterior/Interior Forum and dont check this one very often.

i think what you mean when you ask the question is if your alternatory can handle the load, considering thats where all the power originats from in the car. in that instance, yes, you will be fine. your lights might dim a litle, but its probably not going to hurt the alternator unless you are running sine waves at full volume all day. as for batteries, you should be fine. adding another battery will only increase the load on the alternator, and while it will safly give you more "key off" time for listening to music in a parking lot or whatever, it will increase the load placed on the alternator once the car is started. if you DO decide to add a second battery running in paralle with the original one, buy TWO new batteries of the same type. dont just add a differnt battery from another manufacturere, this will give you many headaches.
my suggestion would be to go ahead and install the system and see how the car responds. i think youll be fine and save yourself the trouble of performing unneccisary upgrades.
whan laying down any sound damping material, i just go over the wires myself. i suppose it might be better to cut the material around them just in case of an electrical problem, but that is so rare theres not much of a reason. i wouldnt suggest laying it over speaker or power wire or anything relating to the system though, as it would suck to try and upgrade your wiring if you decided to later. maby my car is screwy, but i didnt notice a lot of wires back there. there were some on the side walls of the trunk, but thats all i can think of.
edit: i would go back and fix my thousands of spelling mistakes, but im too lazy. tell me if ive been unintelligable.

Thanks man, you were a big help. Also, I was checking out a magazine today and they had high performance alternators for the 2G, I might check that if I ever have problems in the long run.

Hey man, might just look into getting a cap. that way when your at a light and you check out yoru rpms, there not bouncing, better for the alternator. plus i've heard that in some cases, have boosted the rms on the system (more voltage all the time)
