Well my buddy just got his stereo hooked up which consits of two 12 inch kicker solo barics(round ones) and a planet audio 1250d mono block amp. Oh yeah he also has a 1 farad capacitor but that probably isnt the problem. Well it sounds really good but if you try to turn the gain up over a quarter of the way on the amp, then one of the speakers starts to pop. He's gonna try changing out the rca wires and get better speaker wires since his are pretty small. Any ideas what causing this. TIA

when exactly does it "pop", when the amp turns on/off, all the time, on certain notes, or other times? does it sound likt the pop is a result of the signal (as a result of somthing bad with the amp or other components upsteam), or is it a mechanical sound, like the sub is the problem? if only one sub is doing it, try switching the wires between them and see if anything changes.

It Pops with the beat whenever you turn the amp gain up over a quarter of the way. It hit very hard where it's at now but as soon as you turn up the gain a little bit more, Just one of the two speakers starts popping. We replaced the rca's and the speaker wire to the amp and it's still doing it. The amp is brand new and the speakers where bought from a doctors wife that never played them hard ever. Anyone have any ideas. We took it to a shop and all they said is that it's something in the speaker. I know these speakers worked fine before. Please help

hmm... it sounds to me like the speaker is bottoming out due to excessive power. the travel of the voice coil in the magnetic gap is so great that it actually runs into the bottom of the speaker.

if the speakers are in really large sealed boxes, you could put them in smaller once to increase the "spring" of air behind them, but the sonic characteristics of the system would change as well. if they are in a ported or bandpass box, its possible that the box is not built to correct specifications. in a vented box, for example, frequencies below the tuning of the vent will cause the speaker to unload becuase theres no resistance in the box. its as if they were playing in open air.

if thats not the problem, i guess the only solution would be to keep the gains down!! LOL

Thansk for the responses. There actually in a pretty small sealed box compared to most. More than likely because the solobarics I've been told dont need as much air space. I bought the subs off a doctor who had a very High end stereo shop do the work and they made the box to exact specs for the speakers. Do you think It' could be a problem with the speaker. It hit extremely hard but just increase the gain lightly and only one starts popping. Even when it's popping they still hit extremely harder. Also do you happen to know the specs for the 12 inch round solobarics.

strange, i guess you just have a fluke or somthing. those things will take immense amounts of power without a problem in a small sealed box.

as far as specs go, i dont know them offhand, LOL, but you can probably find them at the website.
