#510, "was our car just made to rattle or what?????????"

so here's the thing, I poured a ton of money and time into my system but no matter what I do, another rattle pops up every time I locate and kill another. So here's my question any one here succesfully eliminated most or all internal trunk rattle( and still using the hatch cover/trunk cover thing)? If so what did you do that solved the problem. Or is there just a point where you got to turn every thing down a notch I've got 800 rms going to two 12's(each) in a sealed box. and all levels and gains are at least half or below.

Also If any one is really lazy or cheap a good vibration eliminator for big plastic body panels is good ol' bubble wrapp just ball it up or fold it and cram it behin the panel so it is hard to re attatch and viola. Light weight and the tension of the wrap pushing on the platstic keeps it from vibrating or something like that.

i know how you feel. all the plastic pieces in our car squeek, rattle, and make all sorts of noises. all the plastic screws broke off that hold all the panels down tightly. lately, for some odd reason, all the rattling inside my trunk has diasspeared. i sat back there and pounded on all the pieces to try to make the jam into place, and it has seemed to work, even when im cranking out watts. no real explanation, but i dont question it emoji but i have a problem with the panels where the back speakers are, they keep shaking loose and make a horible sound. and on the outside, im already shook out three screws from the brake light on the spoiler, so now that rattles. and there are metal panels that make horrible noises. but that is outside, and i gave up on that stuff for now. the music is supposed to be for the inside, not out.. eventually when i have enough money to take care of things, ill get to it.

i have figured out a method that has helped me so far.. especially for those rear quarter panels for the back seats.. what you have to do is use some dynomat and where the clips on the plastic panels attatch to the body put a small piece of dynomat there then cut a slit in the dynomat before putting the metal clips back in and you will be amazed how much it will eliminate or lessen the rattles and squeaks.. lets just say that you dont have to dynomat the entire car.. just at the places that you find ater rattling and squeaking.

i hear that the dynamatting (sheets) plastic doesnt really do that much. like it was made for metal more specifically. but i hear that the spray stuff works well for the plastic stuff. but then, its the plastic rubbing on metal, so which would be better?

its not really the plastic that you dynomat.. i tried that at first and found it didnt do squat... the small pieces accually attactched to the metal of the car at the specified places where the clips that are attached to the plastic panels snap into the body of the car.. reasoning that metal on metal that is loose will rattle and not sound good..

LAST EDITED ON 05-Nov-01 AT 10:59 PM (PST)

Go to track auto or something and get a can or 2 of that spray on rubber. Its the same damn thing as dynomat but HELLA cheaper. I did my whole damn car and I dont hear ANYTHING. I jacked up the car and sprayed the trunk from underneath also because I found that it rattled like hell. More than the rest of the car. Just make sure you lay down a LOT of plastic to make sure you dont spray anything you dont want to. It splatters like hell and its a bitch to get off. I did basically my whole car with 3 cans of that crap. 2 cans just on the rear end where the subs were and another can up by where I am. Underneath the seats and such. Good luck!! dynamat whole trunk where it will actually works: around $200 3 cans of spray on rubber: $20 and its the same damn thing. I think even dynamat makes some in a can also. one of those sound deadening companies do.

what kind of system are you bumping? subs wise? b/c from experience, i know that the spray stuff doesnt stop the metal from vibrating all that well, not enough weight. the actual deadning sheets are effetive b/c they are fairly heavy. i hear that the spray works well for small things and plastic parts. but hell, if it worked on your car, sweet, you just saved a grip of money. hehe, dont question it.

My system was---it was stolen =/ 2 JL Audio 12W0's pushed by a phoenix gold ZX350, phoenix gold EQ and crossovers along with alpine head, speakers i chose the eclipse 6"mid's and 6.5 and tweet components. I had the bass cube and LPL that only fit the phoenix gold crap. I also had phoenix gold ZX350 on the components and yet another phoenix gold ZX350 on the 6"mids. Spraying the rear end heavily in the back (2cans) made enough of an impact to stop vibration. I did the doors, sides, underneath the trunk and troughout varies parts of the car with 1 can. Lightly sprayed. I should be getting an insurence check anytime now. around 5k!!

I had my whole system stolen once and insurance footed the bill the only time they have ever come through for me but man was I happy win they did

I don't have track auto stores in MN so I'll look around for some spray rubber probably worth a try in the front the back Is questionable?

no rattles here....

spray is useless unless you buy a 55gallon drum of line-X and go nuts.

mass loading(mat) is what it takes to stop metal and plastic panel rattling. also, R13 fiberglass insulation can be stuffed everywhere to deaden. carpet padding works well also.

but as far as dynamat goes, you really do get what you pay for, I've got 4 layers of dynamat super on my doors, and the 8s don't rattle a thing.

koolade, how did you stop all of the squeeking due to the plastic panels? i know matting works well for metal flex, but would that work for the plastic? to me, it just seems like the bass has shaken everything loose and i need to find a means to keep the panels tight, either to the sides of the car, or to the other connecting pannels. im thinking if i stuff insulation and make it real tight, that might do the trick. any suggestions? im getting tired of having to bump the panels back into place every other day.

you could go out and buy all new metal clips to replace the old ones that hold the panels to the car.. and then place a small piece of dynomat between the clip and the frame of the car it attatches to...

if the panels are actually poping out of place, I'd go in there, and push the insides of the clip back out so they have a better grip inside the hole. and the mat does work on the plastic panels as well.

.....no comment on the spray.....
