Hey guys, Ive had a prob with my alarm for about the last two weeks. Heres the situation...Go to college in sept, car gets left at home. Car is started and run about once every 2 weeks. I come back for thanksgiving and get to drive my car again. Alarm works fine. Go back to school and car sits in driveway for a few weeks. I come back for winter break and alarm will not make any noise. It will still go off (little light inside and dash lights flash) and it will still prevent the engine from bein started...but it will not make any siren noise or anything. Its a viper alarm, and it was installed in the car from a car audio place professionally before I got it. What should I do...I cant figure out how to turn in out of "silent mode" if thats what its in. I used to disengage the alarm, open the driver door, then press button 2 on the remote and that would put it in like valet mode. I cant get it to work and I thought it might be my battery but ive been driving for 3 weeks now and it still hasnt fixed itself. What do I do?

have you checked the siren and the wires running to it? that would be the most obvious cause of your problem.

The battery must have died or the alarm reprogramed by someone pushing the wrong buttons. what i have done in the past with alarms when they mess up is reset them. to do this you cant just unhook the power wire, you have to actually find the alarm box and unplug the pin connector. leave it disconected for like 10 sec and then plug it back in. this will reset the alarm back to its factory setting wich should include the sirens.etc. if this doesnt work then check the wires and fuses. unpluging the unit is much easier than finding all those wires.

Ok thanks guys, Ill start hunting for that alarm box. The siren I know is under my hood by my air intake. That is the only part of the alarm that I have actually found before. I did purchase a new battery recently, but that was before the problem started happening. Any ideas where the alarm box would be located? Can I just unplug my battery for like 10 min and then re hook it up? Ill start looking for that box though.

if its in Valet mode, then the little red led light will be on solid. If it is on, then open your driver door, then press button 1, then 2, then 1 again. That will take it out of Valet mode. Does the alarm even go off if you open the door with it on??

If I open the door with the alarm activated, the speedometer lights flash, I hear a clicking noise, and the car will not start with the key, until I either A) disengage the alarm with the remote, or B) hold in this button at the bottom of the steering console and then turn the key.

sounds like your siren is messed up or a prob with the wiring. Find your siren under the hood, and check to see if they grounded the black wire at the siren. If they did, maybe take that ground off and re-do it. Whenever I install an alarm, i run the ground for the siren right at the ground for the brain. DEI recomends this too. If your grounds are ok, then suspect a faulty siren. Sounds like everything else is working properly. Its not too uncommon for a bad siren; i have seen several...esp if the siren is mounted so that the open part of it is pointed upward, as this can collect water and moisture, which can ruin the siren over time.

Ok, heres how it goes... I checked out my siren to look for wiring...I cant find any at all. I see a wire or two that look like they lead out of the back of it but they then go into that flexible tubing that couples wires and dissapear. the siren, the tubes, and everything around it is zip tied down and I cant move it to look.

So I call up the place that installed the alarm and they said that the alarm just needs to be reprogramed. They said that if the dash lights still flash then the alarm is still good, it just got put into a silent mode that I cant fix on my own. They said the alarm itself needs to be reprogramed and it will take 30min and $30.00

Heres the thing, I bought a new remote for the alarm during the summer from them and they had to reprogram the alarm to work with that remote. They allowed me to watch this then, and even showed me how to do it. It had something to do with the button that is under the dash that comes with the alarm. I am thinking that they want to do this again, but only by charging me money. Does anyone know what Im talking about or how to do it? I wish i remembered but it was a few months ago and I cant recall. TIA

is it cold there?? see, my siren is screwy. it does the same thing when it gets cold out. when its warm outside it works fine so i dunno. at least i have my pager alarm still so im not that worried about it. im probably fixin to get another siren, but thats what i have found, and i have a Valiant alarm system. if its cold out, try putting it in a garage, or someplace warm for a while and ill bet it works.

Programming transmitters:

Open driver door and keep opened
Turn ignition key to the run or on position and keep it there
Using your valet button, press it once then release, then press again and HOLD IT DOWN.
The red led light should blink in a series of one time.
Press button 1 on your transmitter
Now release the valet button and press it once more, then release, then press and hold it again.
Led will blink twice
PRess button 2 on your transmitter
Now release the valet button, then press again, release then press and hold, led will blink 3 times
PUsh both buttons 1 and 2 on the transmitter at the same time.

TUrn off your key, then turn it on then off again.

This programs any 2 button transmitter. If you have a 4 button transmitter, it may be different process.
