i tried to extend my 1000 watt powercord. Its too short and wont fit too much into the trunk. I used a power splitter(?) and used a smaller diameter powercord to the amp. The power decrease was almost 75%. Where can i buy more 1000 watt cable with out buying an entire amp kit?

BTW the legacy amp i got is awesome, i have max output set on 25% and it hits hard on my 2 Rockford 12's. thanks hondahater21 emoji

Not sure what you mean by 1000 watt power wire...any idea on the gauge?? Regardless you should be able to pick some up at any car audio shop.

Never heard of "1000W" power wire, but my guess and hope would be that's it 4ga. wire. Go to your local stereo dealer and buy enough to re-run your entire wire. It's not always a good idea to just split your power wire, unless your going through a distr. block.

I'm running 0 ga. wire back to a distribution block, from there it splits into 3 4ga. wires. I run 2 MTX 8100D amps for my one sub, and a MTX 6304 for my mids and highs. Trust me, go with good wire, I run 3000W to my one sub!! and my wires have never gone out. Remember, it never hurts to go big, but going small can mean a hurt wallet.

Yeah, that's just 4 gauge...get some at a local audio shop, and make sure you get something good to connect it to your loose end. Don't crimp or tape it together.

woah now.

a) you bought a "1000 watt power cord" from walwart. this is probably not suficient to hold the nominal 80-100 or so amps or so a true 1000 watt amp would require (assuming its not class d). im guessing its an 8 guage wire, as ive never seen anything bigger sold in an amp kit from that vendor. HOWEVER...you have a legacy amp, which is probably putting out around 3-400 watts, so it should be of no concern.

b) you claim a "75% decrease in power", how do you know that? thats like claiming you make 30 extra horspower with a CAI because the box it came in said you would. theres a positive corrilation between wire length and resistance, so even though the wire is a smaller guage, being so short it shouldnt significantly reduce power input. if it had reduce the amperege by 75% that wire would be a smoking pile of ashes by now.

c) what size fuse is being used at the battery? im guessing roughly 40-50 amps (again, based on my knowledge of wal-mart amp kits). if so, you arent drawing NEARLY enough power to justify any noticable loss of power with a short run of smaller guage wire. unless you stepped down to somthing like 14-16 guage wire, even 10 guage would be OK (not perfect though).

in answer to your question, however, you can pick up plain ol' wire from any car audio shop, circuit city, etc. you can also buy wire from home depot or lowes, but its quite a bit stiffer than the car stuff due to the less strands (its a LOT cheaper though).

:shhh: i do cocaine :/shhh:
