a few months ago my friend with an eclipse asked me what the biggest size speaker he could fit in the door was...I jumped on here, and got a reply within a few hours...6 1/2" would fit just fine...he went with those and finally got them last week...

...he was installing them today and said they won't fit...

...my question is, he's gonna' need to do some dremeling, right?...I told him he may need to a little bit...correct me if I'm wrong on this...

Yeah they probably won't fit in the "pods" that hose the stock speakers. You can either dremel the whole thing out or just replace the pod with a piese of sheet metal with the right sized cutout for the 6.5s,,,

I went the sheet metal rout and it works perfect. I also used those foam baffles more to cut down on vibration between the speaker and the metal than anything.

You could probably even fit eights in the freakin doors if you wanted too. There is a ton of room in there if you remove the pods.

I had a set of Polk components that fit in there perfectly. Now I have Polk MOMO that I had to cut the basket out of the little pods to get them to fit, but they still fit in the doors.

He probably bought what is called an "oversized 6.5" which is really a 6.75

ive noticed the same thing...the pods wont fit some 6.5s (like my DEI neodymiums), and NO, they arent 6.75s.

just dremel them out a little and use the factory pods, thats going to be much easier that fabricating a new baffle and you get the extra clearence so you dont have to worry about the back of the speaker clearing the window. also...MAKE SURE THEY HAVE AN AIR TIGHT SEAL!!!! thats the MOST important part in installing new speakers. use dynamat, brown bread, raammat, whatever you can find to keep the rear waves from meeting the front waves.

yeah, he has a whole lot of dynamat waiting for us to put in...that stuff is heavy!!! thanx for the assurance guys...I let him see what you guys wrote and he was like, 'so you were right. cool' lol...guess he didn't care that much, but now he is gonna' fix it while I'm at work tonite...thanx again!

I used the stock plastic piece as a template and I cut baffles out of 1/4 MDF.
