#4560, "my alarm finally came in!"

My viper responder finally arrived. I am having it installed tomorrow. They were on back order for about 3 months so DEI could catch up with the demand. I got tired of the stereo shop not telling me any details, so I called DEI. This alarm should be sweet. I can finally drive my car places besides school and local places.

You gotta get a clutch switch bypass. Then you have to remember to never EVER leave your car in gear cause it will jump and slam into the nearest object.

I think he got the DEI 790VX with the little monitor remote. Those are pretty cool...but a lotta shit when it comes to wiring.

Yep those are pretty sweet. I've installed a few already, and the range is damn good on them. I need to get one now hehe...This old paging system is outa date... Oh, and you dont need a clutch bypass to get the manual tranny car to start, all you have to do is to unplug the clutch swith plug. Then the car will start without pushing in the clutch. I actually just got done with putting on a remote start on my manual RS, and i used 2 mercury switches for safety. One switch is on the shifter rod itself, so if the shifter is in gear, the little liqiud mercury is tilted to make a ground connection going to the remote start's safety wire so it doesnt start when it sees that ground signal. Then i used another merc switch on the E-brake rod, the one that pivots with the lever, and if the lever is down, it breaks the needed ground of the remote start so it wont start, unless the E-brake is up and engaged. It works great, and is pretty safe. NEVER install a remote start on a manual car without some sort of safety switch so as to not have it start with it in gear. Trust me, you WILL forget one day to leave it in N...

no idea why the quality is so bad for this pic. I guess there was a lot of glare.

hey matt, do you think you could give a parts list/directions on that set up you did for the remote start with the mercury switches, and what alarm are you using? with a quick trip to radioshack/frys and pulling of the clutch pedal sensor thing i could be SAFELY going out to a warm car through this cold winter. tia

yeah i can try to get a few pics of the setup, its really easy to do. I have a DEI alarm, and then added a 551T add-on remote start. It activates by a open button on my transmitter. I just wanted to be able to warm up the car this winter for cheap, and will eventually get the new RS/Alarm combo like 9d9 has..I used 2 DEI mercury switches, you can find them at most DEI install shops. As of now, I only have one switch setup on the gear stick. I need to have two. Right now, it wont start if its in 1st, 3rd, or 5th. You will need another switch to mount on the opposite side of the gear stick so it wont start in 2nd, 4th, or R. Most all DEI remote starts have several safty swtich wires on them. One wire needs a ground signal for it to operate, and they have another wire that shuts down the RS, or will keep it from activating, if it sees a ground signal. Its really easy to mount these switches to the car. I mounted the one to the gear stick with a bolt that goes through a hole thats already on the lever. I'll try and get some pics up to show..
