(w/ infinty system)
So far I have a 55watt CDX- xpold630 unit.
I bought front 6.5 xpold new version speakers.

It sounds good but soon I want to change add some bass and have a crisp little bass system. What is the a cheap but quality way of doing this?
Couple of questions I have -
Should I sell my xpold 6.5(xs-1632, 50w) speakers, I heard they suck, sound ok to me, just can't handle hard bass. And get some different expensive kickers I found?

Get new rear speakers? or keep stock, they handle the bass well?
When I do get rears, do I get 6.5 for the rears are 6.9?What kind do you recommand?

Ok, about subs, I want one 10 inch sub and amp. What kind should I get for under $200 package or even cheaper, just want good quality sound?

Thanks for help audio experts, I have no clue on the best way to do this.

what i would do is change your rear speakers to 6x9's. get a good amp that will run the sub, the 6x9's, and your 6.5's. sony speakers are good speakers for the price imo. theres always something better, but you will pay for it. i think the thing you should spend the most on is the amp. you will get more life and better sound quality out of it. you can get decent subs for fairly cheap too. i personally would go with two 10's, or maybe 1 12".

also.. the best thing to do or best upgrade.. is to get a nice set of component speakers.. they are 6.5 in the doors and tweeters in the dash.. with cross overs.. this, imo, can make or break a system.

also you can get away with a single 10 or 12 depending on the speaker and the type of bass you want. for example you could get an alpine 10in type r sub and get a nice 300watt amp to push it.. the type r's have a great excursion rate and can decently put out some good lows. if you dont care about space or weigh just get 2 12's or 2 10's and you will have good bass depending on the amp and speakers.

im going to have to disagree with some of the stuff said above. it sounds to me like you are quite happy with your sonys and stock rear speakers, so keep them! dont feel the need to change them out because youve "heard" that they arent good! you can always upgrade them later, so i suggest you invest your money where you want, in a sub system, and go for quality....as opposed to spreading the money really thin and doing too much at once.

that being said...you can get a long way with only 200 bucks. as ive said many times before, the bass portion of the audible spectrum is the easiest to reproduce. remember that you will need to set aside about 30 of that to go for an amp install kit, so i would suggest spending perhaps 80 on a 10-12" sub and 90 on the amp. you dont really need to go with anything fancy, just get somthing reliable (avoid optimus, pyramid, legacy, jensen, etc...). us acoustics, autotek, and profile make really good cheap amps, you might be able to find one on ebay for cheap. in doing a quick search, i found rockford fosgate, MTX, and several other top notch brand subs on ebay for under 80 bucks.

the box is the most important factor in the entire installation. trust me when i say that you dont want to go with a ported or bandpass box unless you know what t/s parimaters are and how to use them. just buy (or build!) a simple sealed box within the recommended specs for the sub.


ok, think ive typed enough, just take your time and do a lot of reaserch, remember you MUST go around to local shops and listen to hier setups to get an idea of what different subs can do. trust your ears!

Thanks for the feedback, I will do lots of research before I spend any more money on my car audio. I will first get the 10inch alpine type-R for $70, a guy recommeded to me. THen go to Best Buy and buy a quality amp and have them install it. After doing that, if it doesn't sound quality, I will replace the rear and then the fronts. I am sure
my system will sound better after this, if not then I will upgrade so more.

Me and Ryan_RS have been wanting to upgrade or stereo system for awhile now, we just didn't know how to proceed doing so. We argued all the time about the stock infinity speakers. I think you need to replace them and Ryan figured they are quality with a good sub and amp. Anyways thanks for the replies.

What the heck...I'll give my "next level" ideas!

When building a system, there are a few things to remember:
#1...Head unit is the most important factor in a system. If you start with a crappy signal, you will get crappy sound.
#2...Speakers don't matter as much as the amps.
#3...Always use amps and over power the speakers. Run a bigger amp and turn them down. This will give you better sound quality and help keep the system running longer.
#4...Round speakers will always have better sound quality than oval speakers. Thus, eliminate the 6x9's in the rear and go with 6.5's. GM started putting 6x9's into cars, to give a little more bass. This bass is always distorted and you will be much better off going with a sub.
#5...Speakers are not designed to reproduce bass, PERIOD!!!
#6...Subs are not designed to reproduce mid-bass, mids, or highs, PERIOD!!!
#7...Yes, the quality of the interconnects do matter. The system will be as good as the weakest link.
#8...Always run the power for the amp and the interconnects down opposite sides of the car.
#9...Buy speakers that sound good to you and not what other people tell you are good. They are not listening to the system...you are!
#10..Have fun building the system and ask lots of questions. It's better to do the research and look like a fool, than buy the wrong stuff and be a fool.
#11..In sound quality competition, your sound should come from the front, not the back. Hence, the rear speakers in a car don't really matter, as they really should't even be heard.
