well i just found out the box i have is too big for my subs. if i were to get a box the size recommended for the subs, would it sound better?

hmmmmmmm...this depends on what you are refeering to,

is the box too big for the car, or bigger than the recommended specs?

if its a sealed box and bigger than the recommended specs, you are in luck. i personnaly have never heard a sub that sounded worse in a larger box. it tends to sound better, considering that the larger airspace lets the subs suspection move easier and lowers the total resonent frequency of the system, providing lower and louder bass. this tends to be good for rap and classical, but may not be great for rock. it depends on the quality of your midbass reproduction. try it out and see what you think first, its always easier to take away airspace than to add it.

i meant the box is too big for the subs... i have a sealed box and on some notes it sounds weird, like an odd vibration. it is coming from the sub, not from a panel. i was wondering if it was because the box was too big

If you want to reduce the volume you can put some 2X4s in there until your volume is closer to spec. You would want to secure them somehow so they don't rattle around in there, but at least that would tell you how they would sound with less volume before you build/buy another box.

it may just be that your subs are having a hard time putting out that note. its probably on the higher bass notes? it may either be above or below the frequency range on either your amp or subs.

is it a wierd rattling sound? check the point where the spider meets the basket, it might be loose. if you look at the back of the sub, the sider is the yellowish thing that looks kind of crumples and runs from where the center of the cone is to the outside where the magnet/voice coil assembly meets the basket. if this part is loose, it might be rattling against the basket as the cone moves in and out.
