Those of you with U/D pulleys, are you having any problems with power (i.e. massive dimming, battery not charging fully) i just want to know for sure before i hook mine up. I've got 1000 watt kenwood amp, I'm about to put another, plus another to power my new focals. Is there a better alternator i can get? would this fix the problem(s)? TIA

do a search, theres a lot of people that have them and arent having any probs. if you have a massive system it might not be a good idea, but if its that big the weight of it might negate the point of having the UDP. if you have a moderate system (600ish watts or less), you shouldnt have a problem.

u may need a cap or two, but i think w/that many watts, it is usual to need a cap. i would invest in a cap w/the stock pulley, let alone the udp

u could try and see the effects... then go from there, id be safe tho

I think you guys have the Cap thing all wrong. If you know what a cap does it holds a charge on 1 plate until the voltage in the gap reaches an ionization point then the plate discharges onto the other plate and releases stored voltage. the reason that caps are used is mostly for bass applications where when the bass hits it causes a large current need from the battery or alternator. the cap reacts extremely quickly in delivery of current when compared to a battery. so when the bass hits, the power is taken from the cap to compensate for the relatively slow response of the battery. it has nothing to do with how much current is supplied from the alternator or battery. lets just say that if the alternator is only putting out 11 volts then the cap only charges to 11 volts and does not do anything more to supply more voltage. I have a 1200 watt system in my car, My system is set up for sound quality rather than pure SPL, I have a set of speakers for each range of frequencies eg. .75", 1", 3", 4.5", 5.25", 6.5", 6x9",and 10's for my subs. I don't play my system rediculously loud, but any time my system is on when I had the AFX pulley my voltages would drop below 11.5 volts at idle. I put the stock pulley back on because of the voltage problem, but i could totally tell the difference in the way the car drives, soooo, i researched the Unorthodox pulley and eventually bought one of those and it is only a 20% underdrive but it cured my voltage problems and gave me the nice HP back!
