my friend is about to buy these subs. shes gonna have a clarion 1000w amp with them, she wanted JL's but the guy she was getting stuff from told her he cant get jl's and to get the clarions... this is the model number "clarion srw3081" http://www.clarion.com/products/subwoofer/subwoofer3.htm

are these good? shes willing to pay about 150 a sub... opinions please , thanks...

i have heard some of the older clarion subs and havnt been too impressed with them. i looked up the t/s parameters and wasnt too impressed with these either. a weak 9mm of x-max and a small 33oz magnet with a low Bl (motor strength) doesnt sound good.

if you were paying like 75-90 bucks per sub, it might be a good deal, but for 150 each you can get better.

this being said, have either you or the potential purchaser listened to these subs yet? bass is by far the easiest part of the sound system to put together, so you both might be pleased with the way they sound.

I've been competiting for 3 years now and I've never seen or heard a Clarion sub. That in it's self should say something.

If you're willing to spend $150 per sub, there are lots of options for you. Alpine, MTX, Kicker, Coustic, Polk, JL Audio, etc. all have subs in this price range.

Go to some stores and have the sales counselers demo the products. Be sure to go to a store that has knowledgable sales counselers and not just some kids pushing buttons. Play a variety of music and pick the one that sounds the best.

Points to remember when buying subs:
Watts don't really mean anything.
Over power the subs and turn the gains down.
Sensitive subs will play louder with smaller amps, and less sensitive subs need more power to play loud.
Match the box to the sub (ie vented, sealed, band-pass).
Get a box with the proper amount of air space.
