hey guys, i haven't bought my head unit yet or anything but was wondering if anyone this. are there any drawbacks to putting in a bypass to the wire that supplies only when the ignition's turn on? i'm planning on putting in a switch to switch between power coming from the ingition wire and one with continuous power. the basic result is a switch which lets you turn on your radio without turning on the ignition. (while still being able to switch it back to being controlled by the ignition) now the most obvious drawback would be if you forgot it on...
i'm also doing this b/c i'm gonna have my interior lights (with music interface thing) hooked up to this same switch. with the lites it's switcing between the parking lites wire and continuous power. so basically with no key in the ignition you can flip a switch an turn on the radio and interior lights (which responed to the music). i know how to do the wiring but was just wonderin if there could be any side effect on the HU. as far as i know as long as that power going to the ignition wire on the HU is a 12V source it doesn't matter where it's comin from or when it has power.

you have to hook up a constant power wire and an ACC wire. your constant helps save your info/settings, and your acc turns it on. instead of installing a switch why not just connect the Acc and constant both to the constant wire from the battery, that way you can use it w/o the key and all you have to do is hit the power button on your headunit to turn it on and off, that would be the logical way to do it, you already have an on/off switch, its on your unit, why install another one.

yea i thought about that but i wanna still be able to switch it back to bein powered by the ignition (so it comes on by itself when you start up the car). thanks though. i'm mostly doin this so i can turn on the radio and the interior lights (which flash with the music) at the same time without needing the key or anything. nice for showing stuff off. open the door, flick the switch - lights an music.
