all the ones ive seen come with a jl sub installed, so im not sure if you can get it without the sub. either way, its going to be expensive. they sound "so so", if your just into pure sq and want a littl eextra "umph", they fit the bill, but dont expect to be setting off car alarms or anything
if you have any kind of fabrication experience you can build your own for about 50 bucks, and it should only take a couple afternoons. just use fiberglass to mold to the side panel and build it up onto an MDF board as the front baffle (where the sub mounts). build up fiberglass till its about 2/5" thick or so (5-6 layers) and carpet. you should get about .6-.75 cubit feet of internal volume assuming you bring the front baffle out to the edge of the spare tire cover.
you could also just buy a small rectangle prefab box and just mount it in the corner. it wont look great, but will accomplish the same thing and still be easily removable if you need to haul stuff.

i'm pretty sure it only comes with the sub already in... a local shop quoted me the MSRP ($530) but they said they'd include the install an everything... personally i'd rather save some cash an do it myself. i don't think it's that hard judging from the instructions... haha plus i already got my neon installed to replace the trunk light i'll be losing with the box

mine was about $450 3 years ago. It comes with the 10w3. i say its worth it. it sounds great imo, but im not some audiophile, so i may not know about all the technical shit. but i say its worth it, its high quality, made from fiberglass. i think it would be hard to make one of these and have it fit/sound right. theres 2 long pegs that go down into the trunk to secure it, and a hole drilled in the side to bolt it onto the plastic panels.

I got mine when they 1rst came out for our car, probably around 96 or 97. Mine was about $525 and worth every cotton pickin penny. Not as loud as my current set up with 2 10"s but its more than enough for most. When I got mine they came with a 10W4 which is now defunct. After that they came with 10W3 but now that JL is updating their complete line (the 10W3 line just got updated) they probably will have the new W3 soon. As you can see I rocked mine to the dust cap came off then replaced the woofer with a rockford:
