Haha this is the first time I've visit this forum. But yesterday when I was cleaning my car I notice my sub no kickin and I check to see if the sub was wired up cuz the wire comes out sometimes. That didn't seem to be the problem. I checked for resistance through the sub I got a connection. The red light was on on the amp and there was power going to it. But no power coming out of it to the sub. I got my dad's whack multimeter though but when I tried to measure the output I got resistance instead of voltage (it's an auto measuring DMM).

So do you think it's shorted out?

heres the posoblities and ways to test them:

1) theres a problem between the sub and the amp, or the sub is bad. to test this, just hook up any other working speaker to the amp outputs and see if it works.

2) the amp is not recieving any signal. try running a new RCA cable or even hooking up a walkman with a 1/8" to RCA connector and see if you get any sound. if you do, theres either a problem with the cable (e.i., its snagged on somthing and shorting out) or the headunit output is bad. 99% of the time a headunit output goes bad is becasue of bad grounding on the amp. unplug the RCAs at the amp and turn the system on. if the amp doesnt turn on, you know it was grounding itself out through the RCA shield and through the headunit. this is BAD and would have burned out the RCA outputs on the headunit ... hence no signal.


3) theres a problem with the amp multiplying the voltage and sending the signal to the sub. if the other suggestions yield no results, this might be the problem. try substituting another amp in its place if possible, otherwise youll need to take it to a repair shop.

thats all i can think of right now. good luck tracking it down

I had a blown amp that would work on and off. it would hit a bass line, skip one or two and hit another. It did this because i disconnected the power from the amp before i disconnected the wire from the batt.
Check to make sure the ground wire is connected right and make sure you didnt blow the power line fuse

doh sorry guys haha I figured it out. I even went so far as to dismantle the amp and found no shorts. Anyway I bought some erm... CHEAP ass inline fuses from the flea market and I was washing my engine bay and I guess it shorted the fuse (I got one of those giant fuse holders) cuz I was playing beats while I was washing it. Well this cheap ass fuse blew but you can't really tell it's blown. I checked the fuse for voltage and on one side there was power then when I went to the other side no power. The only way I was able to tell was to get a Ohm Meter and test the fuse and both fuses I tried putting in there were shorted. So I popped a third one in and bam worx. Here's a lesson don't buy cheap fuses haha. Soon as I get some funds imma go out and buy some monster fuses instead.

dood, just invest in a Phoenix Gold 120amp circuit breaker, I got that in my car right after the battery instead of a conventional fuse, all you gotta do if it trips is find your short, re-trip it and BAM, you're working, no goofy fuses to put back in.
