Currently I have three SVC 12ohm subs hooked together running a 4 ohm load. I want to get three w3's or w6's so would it be best to get the DVC 6 ohm subs for a three sub hookup. TIA

assuming you want to remain at a 4 ohm total load...yes. wire each subs voice coils in series (pos of one coil to neg. of other) to effectivly make 3 twelve ohm subs. then just wire them in parallel (pos to pos, neg to neg) and you get a 4 ohm total load.

Cool. Would that be the best way to go or is there a better way to do it. I'm planning on getting an alpine mrv 757 or 1507 to run em. What kinda load would I get if I hook up the DVC 4ohm subs or should I just stick with the 6ohm.

im not too familiar with alpine products, but i believe the alpines you mention arent abvle to handle a lower resistance than 4ohms briged, so i wouldnt go with anyhting lower than the 6 ohm DVCs. if you were to use 4 ohm DVCs and wire it all the same, you would wind up with about a 2.6 total ohm load; and that would probably cause over heating, while not really gaining too much power.

Yeah yeah yeah...dual 4ohm subs for the 2.6...that's what I was gonna tell you. Screw the 6ohms or 12ohm subs. Go with the dual 4's and get a 2ohm stable amp. That 2.6 will run the amp at higher power but more stability and you will love it!

Great info guys. thanks alot. One more question than. What amps would you recommend for the w3's or w6's. I can get a pretty good deal on an extant 1000d right now if that would run em good. I'm looking for any suggestions though. and Are you sure the mrv 1507 wouldn't handle lower than a 4ohm resistance. The reason I ask is becuase I just bought a custom box and the amp it was made for was that one but I'm sure you could brobably fit another one in there. TIA. its possible that amp could be fine with a lowr impedence. they are quality product, but its just hard to say. if you dont turn your gain, bass boost, eq., etc all the way up, you might be fine. one thing though: our hatches get damn hot in the summer, and having an amp sit in the location yours is in can cause overheating if your already pushing the amp pretty hard.

if you already have the amp, go ahead and keep it and see if it ever goes into protection mode. if it starts shutting off on you, you need to get a different amp, but if it doesnt, you know youre fine.
