Ok guys!

All ye helpful, come on down...

so, My '98 eclipse came with the Infinity sound system. I recently replaced the head unit, and i've been having strange problems ever since. some of you guys have suggested chucking the ol infinity system and starting anew...sounds good to me! So, What will I need? First, let me clarify what i want to accomplish. I dont plan on competing in any contest' or anything of that sort. All i want is a decent, clean sounding system. Something better than this infinity system would be nice. Ive been looking at all the Sony Xplod gear, and i really dig it. Looks cool, and ive heard they're decent too. So, what do i need? a New amp? how many 6x9 speakers? anything else? I also want to let you guys know that I *DO* use my trunk quite a bit, so i cant get these whacky cool huge sub's and custom boxes you guys got back there. something like a couple 10's or a 12 would suffice for me, i suppose. Alright then...let the info flow...thanks much guys!

first buy a 4 chanel amp sony are ok and some have built in crossovers witch is worth the extra cost. then buy 1 pair of 6x9's
and one pair of componit for the front 5&1/4 i think. as for as the sub jl makes a stelth box for the eclipse but it is expensive. I am working on making my own fiber glass box for an 8 or 10 but im just geting started so no details yet

If your bumper still has all its paint your not low enough

Well, I'd like to know what kind of head unit you bought. ^^^^^ Has you on the right path except they are 6.5's in the doors, not 5.25. I'd stay away from XPlod stuff. I work at a shop for a hobby on the weekend so I get to play with all the cool shit. I hate to sound like a broken record but I'm running all Alpine in my car with Type R components up front and coaxials in the rear.....I wouldn't pick anything else. But I get them at cost, so if you worried about money go with something a little less expensive. But I personally have never liked anything made by Sony for the car audio world. To me they're really impressive looking crap.

One of the guys in my shop just bought the Sony flip up tv screen. Can't remember the number on it. But he could have got an Alpine CVA 1005 (like the screen in F&F) for the same price. He went with sony and was bitching about it 2 weeks later...already fqd up. Stick with Alpine man, all they do is car audio and electronics....it's what they're best at.

just a suggestion, for your bass if you dont want to take up a lot of your trunk space go with a amplified bazooka tube. they arent too big, easy to install, and for a small car like a eclipse they will fill it with bass. i have one that is unamplified, and i bought a seperate amp and it sounds real good. other people on the board have them too. ask around.

oz_gs just made a post. i think its called "todays project..."
he build a nice enclosure with 2 10" alpine subs in it and it takes up very little trunk space. heres a pic.

maybe he can give you some dimensions and you can build one.

Ok guys..

So I found a couple people to help me in my search...

And yes, time after time they told me that Sony Xplod stuff was complete and utter crap. cross that off the list.

Instead, I've decided to go with all Alpine Gear. A little more expensive in the end, but hopefully, well worth it.

Alpine SPS-1629S 's for the front speakers,

Alpine SPS-6939S 's for the rear speakers

Power Acoustic OV2-1200 Amp for the subs

Alpine MRP-F200 Amp for the hi's n' mids

Crunch Fat Boy CDS-10FAT Subs (10' 's)

Any Loopholes here? you guys Dig Alpine Gear? let me know, thanks guys!!

Jim

No crunch subs please. I think their amps are decent, but I never heard anyone get their subs. The Pioneer TS-W254C 10" subs are 50 bucks a piece at http://www.sounddomain.com and got good reviews. I'm getting two.

my advise is this:

go with what sounds good to you, and what you know is a quality product. dont become overzealous all at once...concentrate on one thing at a time and take it slow to make sure the install is quality. make sure to listen to stuff well above and below your price range to get an idea of what you are sacrificing/gaining. oh..and never trust the salespeople emoji

:shhh: i do cocaine :/shhh:

Ahh!!

Ok, so the setup i mentioned fit my budget on paper, but then i realized i forgot costs of installation kits, shipping on the products..etc..

wow, its amazing how fast that adds the price up another 100 bucks or so..now im slowly slipping out of my price range...

What can I do? You guys here tell me to take it easy and slow, do it step at a time..but, this dude i been talkin to about the components i chose says that i cant just buy the 2 amps and my subs, cos the amp will have too much power and fry my current speakers...ok, supposedly that option is out..and i cant just buy a 4 channel amp, and save for the new front and rear speakers later, cos he says that if i dont have those new speakers, i have to buy a 2 channel amp..then if i want new fronts and rears, gotta save AGAIN and buy those new speakers AND a new 4 channel amp..THEN, my other option is...buy the subs and sub amp...ok that works..but then i still have the problem of running the infinity fronts are rears off the HU, and that beotch overheats and distorts QUICK at volumes of like 18...

AARRRRRRGGGHHHH!!

what do i do? please direct me!!

Jim

Heres my advice... Dont buy crap. stick with good names like alpine and jl audio. alot of people think that they are getting a deal when they buy a speaker for 100 bucks less that sounds the same at first. but in a couple of months when the brand name stuff is still going strong your lesser names start to sound like crap. i had two jl tens in my mustang for 2 years then sold them to a buddy and he has had them over two years and they are still going strong. bottom line is you get what you pay for. if you cant afford it all at ones buy it in pieces. belive me it will pay off in the long run. and dont make the mistake that many people make which is buy nice subs and then a piece of sh*t amp that claims 1600 watts for 250 bucks. there is a reason that jl audio amps that claim one third of that power output are 3 times the price. the amp is the most crutial part of your system. make sure it can drive what you have. thats all. hope this helps

Hey...thanks for the quick reply, dude above me..

Yeah, almost all of my components are Alpine...From what i've read or heard, they're a trusted company and make quality stuff.

Ok, So I *CAN* build up my system as i go...I hate people who try to lie to me thru their teeth, just so they can take more of my money, or see me spend too much...Rrrr...real world, i suppose..

Looks like I'll be starting with a brand new amp for my mids n' hi's, a pair of subs, and an amp for those subs....adding new front and rear speakers later..

Anyone have anything else to say? You've all been REALLY helpful...thanks much guys!

Jim
