i know this has been asked but can 6x9's bolt staright into our cars?( i have a 98 esi) thanks

I am not replying to your question but had a question about putting 6x9's in my car also. In my 97 eclipse i know that i have to modify the holder since it is for 6 1/2's but should i put new wiring in or should i just use the wire from the 6 1/2's or does it even make any difference?

First Question: I think you will have the ports for 6 1/2" (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If you do then just take out the stock speaker, remove the port and then dremel or cut the port until the speaker fits. That's what I and alot of people on the board have done. Works well and then you just screw the speaker in and put the port back in it's place. Good luck.

Second Question: I used the wires so I'm sure you can too.

Yup, Like others have said. You most likely have pods for 6.5"s in the back. You can either dremel out the ones you currently have or get the actual 6x9 pods from the dealer. I just bought the pods from the dealer. They run anywhere between $50-$65 depending on what dealer you go to.

Buy the pods, they work better and aren't nearly as aggrivating. Check the depth clearence before you to far though, some 6x9's are too deep and won't clear the fenderwell. I've seen guys beat the sh*t out of the inner fenderwell in order to fit a nice set of 6x9's.

I have a pair of Infinity Kappa 6x9 and they fit fine.

Maybe it's because I have a 98 Eclipse Spyder with the Infinity System. (It comes with 6x9 stock in the back and 6.5" for the door and 4" for the front dash).

for the wiring it depends on how many watts your giving to each of the speakers.. but unless your giving it loads of power to each speaker, you should be fine with 16ga if that's what's stock..
