Im gonna be putting 4 12's (jl w3's) in my 99 rs, i was just wondering if theres much difference in sound when i fire them forward, back or up? which way will make it the clearest and loudest or is there not to big of difference between them in our cars? if theres not to much of a difference im going to fire them forward so it will fit with how i want my install to look, but if theres a big difference ill fire them a different way. any info or ideas will help.
btw, if firing them one way is going to make it rattle like a bitch, i dont want to fire them that way, my old car rattled like a bitch and made it sound shitty, so i want to stay away from that, and i dont have the money right now that the shop's asking to get it stopped.

ok... first thing... if you have 4-12's - unless you dynomat the shit out of your car, it will rattle. You won't be able to solve rattling by facing the subs in a different direction - buy some dynomat or equivalet sound deadener.
The general rule for sub placement is that you want the sound waves from the sub to bounce off as many surfaces as you can before they get to you. This generally means you need to rear-fire them or fire them up.

unless you plan on a really small box design for 4 12's, your best or only option is to face them upward because of space limitations. My sub fires up, sounds great and is pretty loud. You can use an isobaric sub mounting set up to save space too, but i have never liked the sound from that kind of set up, just my opinion. I would suggest 2 15s or 3 12's. Much more space to work with, and will be plenty loud enough to loose some hearing

I have two 10s in my car and I have tried firing them in every direction possible. No matter which way I fired them they were loud and sounded great. I thought they souded best when they were fired up but I wanted to keep the stock hatch cover in place and when the subs fired at that it rattles pretty bad. When they were faced toward the back I had a bit more outside rattle. So I ended up facing them forward and I have almost no rattles and it sounds great. I still have really good sounding bass wether I am looking for low bass or tight bass it sounds really good.
Like Tim said with the 4 12s it will rattle pretty bad no matter what so I would put them in which ever way they look/fit the best and you will still get great sound IMO.
