hey guys. i am pretty good with electronic's/soldeiring and tommarow morning all of the addvertisments come in the paper. i am considering fliping through them all and picking the best for a "alarm+installation included +part extra" kind of deal. over the years i have learned that it is usually good to fear these sorts of places. but i really dont feel like going to some stupid stereo shop and spending hundreds of dollars for an alarm. im just starting to get a little nervous when i drive down the street with my system back in pounding hard and the windows down(what can i say its summertime). i get those looks in peoples eyes, the "i am going to figure out where you live around this town and jack you for your car while yuo are asleep you little punk" look. so what do you think my best bet is. oh and if there are any suggestions as far as where i should go for my alarm, i live in the san francisco bay area, and am always willing to drive anything under a couple hours for a great deal and good work.


p.s. ive searched and searched and searched for the past hour on here and havent foudn much on alarm installations.

Our cars are pretty easy to install alarms into really. If you know the basics of the car's electrical system, then you should be fine. The most important part of an alarm install is to HIDE EVERYTHING! Tape up all your wiring, hide the control module, and make everything you install and wire VERY hard to get at, including the siren and its wiring..thats very important..The longer it takes to disable an alarm, the better for you. You can use the techsoft link in my signature for all the wiring info you will need to hook it up. Go with a very popular, name brand of alarm too, dont buy cheap. I install DEI products, so thats my bias...

i didn't do an alarm, but i did an autostarter which is pretty similar.. the hardest part i had was getting to the power door locks.. just like the other post.. just make sure you hide everything.. remember that how hard the wiring is to get to is just as important as how hard it is to get to the brain.. if they can figure out where the power wire is, then they can disarm it..

thanks guys, yeah i slept on my thoughts last night and i woke up saying to myself "yup im sure as hell not going to go to one of those circuit city best buy places". your link with all the wiring info should be all i need. so the alarm i buy should most likely come with some sort of directions? i mean "this wire goes to power, this wire goes to ground, these sensors go here..."? im a little nervous about sensor placement and all of that because i am not an alarm install person. i dont want to be ripping my doors apart a dozen times to get that shit right. but i guess if its all in the directions it should be ok. oh and i wont have to worry about power windows, power locks, or any of that stuff because i have a bare bones rs. that should simplify things.

Yeah if you dont have power locks or anything, it will be very simple. If you can find a DEI alarm(viper/python/sidewinder/avital/clifford/hornet) i can be of much help. But all of those alarms will come with an install manual, so it should be fairly straight forward. Most alarms should come with an install manual really..best advise is to take your time, and think out how and where you want to mount the componets..then just run and hook up your wiring. You will be able to find ALL of the needed wires for the alarm under the driver's dash area, and the driver kick panel area..Just be sure to tape and hide all of your connections to the stock wiring.

I ended up getting a Crime Guard alarm from Omega Research. The alarm has everything I wanted as far as sensors plus Omega sells quick connect harnesses for do it yourselfers so you don't have to splice into near as many wires. They have one that plugs into the harness behind the steering column for the starter kill and power for the alarm and another that just plugs right in to the power door lock harness.

It might be a cheesy way to go but it was sure the easy way to go. The one I got has a pager port so it will tell me when my alrm goes off if I am within range. I work downtown and have to park in a parking garage about a block away so it is pretty practical for me.
