i am adding 4" speakers in the lower dash and was going to splice into the door speakers. is this ok? if so what color wires are the left and right doors?

I would advise against doing that. By splicing into the other speakers, you will be changing the impedance of the load on your amp. If you are using the head unit power, you run the risk of damaging the head unit amplifier. Here's the scenario: Let's say the speakers in the doors are 4ohms as well as the speakers you are adding. There are two ways to run the new speakers, parallel and series. Parallel means you splice + to + and - to - creating a 2ohm load. Series means you run the + amp wire to the + of on speaker, the negative wire of that speaker to the + wire of the other speaker and the - wire of the second speaker to the - wire of the amp (little confusing, huh?) which in turn would leave you with a 8 ohm load. Here's the problem, most head units are only designed to take no lower then a 4ohm load. If you run a 2ohm load, there is a good chance that you will kill the amp in the head unit. If you run them in series with an 8ohm load your head unit will love you however you will cut your power in half. If you are using a separate amp, check it's ratings. Most amplifiers are able to take a 2ohm stereo load. Any other questions, just ask.
