I've seenit done in rear deck speakers that hold 6x9. Is there enough material in there for it to be possible? It's beena while since I went in there. I have them cut now to hold 5x7s.

that would be a close fit, if it were too work.. i dont know if the pods are that wide, or if there is enough clearance in the back.. i would just drop them in the doors, and run some kicks.. would be better for imagining.

You COULD make it work, but it would take some custom fabrication. It would be more ideal to put 8s in the doors and 6-1/2s in kicks. That would be a LOT better for imaging/soundstage.

Yes, i agree with the both of you. An 8" speaker will not give you much low bass, which means it will be more effective reprocucing upper bass frequencies, which become more directional, affecting your imaging and sound stage. Best place will be the doors and kickpanel areas. Actually, to achieve the best soundstage and imaging, having NO rear speakers is the best bet, for the true audiophile. Most serious autosound competitors don't use any rear speakers, because it usually hurts their score on the RTA meter. I personally like to have a little bit of rear fill of music. On my car, i hear most of the music form the doors and the dash speakers, and can just barely distinguish the sound from the rears. This way, you still get the sound in front of you, and also have some ambience in your music from the rear.

It was a thought. I'm going to get real tired of pulling the sub box out and putting itback in, sincec I plan on more track appearances on a regular basis. I was hoping to get some bass out of some 8" woofers to add soem to the low end. The stock set up just won't do... I was thinking a 10" or 12" in a fiberglass enclosure in the corner (like JBL stealth). But figured if I could get decent bass out of the 8"s in the rear, and they would fit. The only removal would be the spare tire. And I would oncec again have a trunk. Something my current dual 12" sub set up does not allow.

8" subs will fit in the doors? really? I didn't think there was room for that? Possibly, but I think the kick panels would get in my way when not shifting, ,I always rest my foot on the dea dpetal, I fear I would put my foot through the speaker eventually.

I guess it's back to the drawing board, or time for some experimentation...

The only problem, is I like my spare tire. Just in case. I take roiad trips, I'd hate to be in the middle of a road trip 2 hours from my destination and an hour form home, in the middle of essentially no where, without a spare.

You can put the 8's in the rear stock area, but you will need to do some custom work. You are obviously just looking for something to save space. If you're not going to be competing, I really wouldn't worry about the imaging. Besides, there are a large amount of competitors who use 8" woofers in the rear, other speakers for rear fill and win competitions (like usaci and iasca world championships)!The amount of highs you will hear from the rear would be minimal, depending on the crossover freq. and the slope. If I were you I would go for it.

8's in the doors can be done, it's pretty easy actually...free-air that is. making enclosures for em though...don't get me started. anyway's you'll get much better response from them in the doors. the rear mounts have all the wrong characteristics for 8s.

but...i know you're lookin for bass...and no matter where you put those 8s, you aren't going to get what you're lookin for. I've actually still got that half built fiberglass 12" sub enclosure for the rear corner. I'll have to finish that and give it to ya one of these days.
