Go with the Pioneer. The HPF alone makes it better than the Sony. I'm not crazy about Sony for HU's anyway. I have a Kenwood but I wish I bought a Pioneer instead.

Yea dude I would go with the Pioneer too. I went to 7 places today looking for a new head unit...and man I played around with that Pioneer its tight as hell. PLUS Sony exxagerates how much wattage they put out (well at least thats why the sale person told me)

Get the Pioneer 8400. No offense to Sony but the Pioneer is better all around. I personally like the Premier series of Pioneer but the Premier P840 costs me at my warehouse $499, so $385 for the 8400 is not bad. Although there are a lot of differences in the two. Overall 8400 is cooler than the Xplod. That is my .02
Good Luck!!!!

I'd say the Pioneer also, mostly for the looks department. Sony IMO is still better quality than Pioneer, but pio has really come a long way in their car audio products. I've had my eye on that pioneer head unit for a while now..*contemplating*....

Pioneer, its a well balanced HU and from personal expeirence sony HUs are crap. If I were you guys id look into Eclipse HUs, VERY nice, even a cheaper Eclipse model would put either of those choices to shame, I have last years top of the line or 2nd from top of the line model which is the 8051 which has 8v pre-outs, etc, you can find last years HUs brand new for the same price as your lookin at. I paid $350 for mine brand new in the box when it retails for around a grand.

They're both equally great headunits IMO. I'd say Sony just because I'm already using Sony peripherals and my TV tuner/video input can only talk to the Sony. Also, the Dynamic Soundstage Organizer is wonderful. You can achieve the same effect via the settings on your amps, though. Also, I find the menus on Pioneer headunits are not the easiest to navigate (I'd probably kill myself on the road). I say go out and play with both and pick the one you like best, they're both nice headunits.

all headunits dont put out what they say, the XXx4 is a max power, rms is around 12-17, correct me if i am wrong here somebody, but thats why you should run your speakers off an amp, and not the headunit

Thats why my HU doesn't have a preamp, in other words, it does not put out any power at all which in turn gives me a cleaner signal from my amps and speakers.

Alpine does make very nice headunits. You really can't go wrong with one and I've never heard a single complaint. I'd have one right now if it would work with my Sony video stuff.

Yeah, the new Kenwood mp3 deck is tight! Its a nice silver color, and has too many features to play with on it. My friend has one, and i was very impressed with them, i'm usually not a huge fan of Kenwood, but i like that deck..will match my new black/silver color scheme interior too. hmmmm...what to buy, what to buy... emoji
