#2262, "Cd player still wont work after using cd cleaner...should I open it up????"

Ok...if you have seen my post in the past...i have complained about my cd player workin in the morning before school, then when I come back to my car after school it dont work or if im listenin to a cd in the mornin and then when I cut off my car...it wont play again. Well i bought a cd cleaner at best buy...thinking that would solve my problems, but it didnt. You just hear it spinning inside then it says E-01 (this applys for any cd I try to play) It used to work in the morning now it dont work at all...so Im thinking of opening up my cd player and see wtf is up...what do you guys think? If I do open it up, what should I look for?

theres really not much more you can do. you might want to try blowing compressed air in therre in case something is on the read head. otherwise youd have to have it serviced, and if your gonna pay for that might as well just replace it.

The lasar read head inside the player most likely has become worn out, or mis-aligned. There really isn't much you can do yourself. You can get it fixed by a shop, but the cost of doing it will be fairly close to a new aftermarket deck. Believe it or not, lasar heads do have a certain life span, and can burn out, but they should last many years without trouble. I'd say just go get an aftermarket cd player. Most new decent models cost around 200 or so dollars, and just install it yourself to save some cash. Really easy..

Its really hard to tell, it mostly depends on what is exactly wrong. If you need a new lasar head, most of them have to replace the whole lasar servo assembly inside the player, and this will cost at least 150+ bucks. If its something not as serious, i would say 75 bucks at a minimum, give or take...Call around locally, and see what you come up with...

I forgot to mention that if you are stuck on getting a stock cd player, check your local junkyard for one, you might get lucky. Expect to pay around 150 bucks for one. New at the dealer around 400 bucks. I always say to get an aftermarket deck for these reasons. They are rather cheap nowadays, more power to your speakers, more features, manufacturers warrenties, and the upgradability for adding amps using rca plugs on the radio. I have a stock cd player in excellent condition, that i *might* be willing to sell for 100 bucks.
