I just upgraded to 6.5 in the front and 6x9 in the rear, my hands still hurts. well i have a JVC headunit (cheap one) that it send's "45 Watts x 4" and the upgraded speakers, are 6.5 (160 Watts max, 35 Nominal) and 6x9 are (200 Watts Max, 40 Nominal).

For now it pumps out sound, sure but i want to install an AMP, my question is about watts, how much do i need to get all the power needed for the speakers, around 150 RMS (is this nominal power?)or what?

on a side note
Also first i fried a sub speaker, 10" with a 4 channel x 100 watts amp, then i put a 2 10" sub box and after a while the amp wont turn on. is this a wiring problem, or a speaker, sub, amp problem. I didn't had at the time a didn't have a fuse, just 8 wire gauge from the battery to the amp, do you guys think this was the problem?

I would install a QUALITY 75x4 amp with built in crossovers. That should get you going.

Yes i would definately get an amp, use around 50-100 watts rms per channel amp. You will notice a big difference in your sound. As for you sub amp, be sure you remote turn on wire is getting powered up by the head unit. Not using a fuse at the battery on your power wire can hurt your amp, provided it drew too much power, and that the amp itself doesn't have its own fuse on the chassis. Check that too, most amps have a fuse directly on them. Check your ground also. Be sure to fuse the power wire at the battery, for this is mainly meant to protect the wire itself not the amp, in case somewhere along the power wire run it gets shorted out against somthing. If that happens and the wire isn't fused, it can start a fire. That's not good.

don't underpower it...

you have a better chance of messing up the speakers from underpowering them as compared to powering them too much. i'm not saying go over the max wattage, just like

let's say it's 50rms watt speaker and 150watt max watt.. than running 50-70 shouldn't hurt, just try not to underpower them

i didn't believe that underpowering could hurt the speaker, but then i found this website that explains all that junk... um....

good point.. youll have more problems with under-powered speakers than over-powering them. if the amps supplies too much power, you can just turn down the amp.. but if its starving the speakers, you compensate by turning up the volume.. speakers go byebye
