I use an old Beltronics and it picks up 1/4 mile before, so I have ample time to slow down.

Pretty happy with it and they're not overly expensive.

i have a uniden..its probably 5 years old but it still does the trick every time. has laser, L2 laser, all radar bands, VG2 detection and cloaking, 360* protection. i think it was like 175. its very good about not giving off a ton of false readings even on the HWY setting and iv picked up radar from well over a mile with this thing.

Beltronics Vector 960, not sure how old it is, got it free from my gramps, but its very nice, very few false alarms, good display, and it will pick up a signal from at least a mile down the road (I'm pretty sure I've picked them up at 2 miles away before). Only bad thing is the volume control is flat out retarded (one button you have to press and hold to move the volume up or down) and it rattled on my windshield constantly until I bought a little rubber bump thing to put on the back of it.

That's a nice one.

If money is no issue, I know the K40 came out like 2 years ago at about 1 grand. It has no plug in from your cigarette lighter or anything like that. It's virtually undetectable. I have a scan from the magazine.

I personally use at a 9 year old wistler. Yes you can laugh, but it does have laser detection, vg2 shut off etc. I have tested it with a 2003 cobra and they both started beeping at the same time in front of radar gun. I am happy with it. However if I was going to buy a radar now I would buy bel 995 or passport x50 why u sak?

Bel 980, Passport 8500, V1 are all very good. Stay away from the cordless ones, batteries suck. I have a Passport and I really like it, other than the fact I needed it to be recalibrated a few years ago which cost $50.

I have the X50 and I have not had any complaints. It gives you TONS of warning time and has plenty of options on it. I got it about a year an a half ago for well under $300 although I can't remember how much it was.

The passport escort would be ideal IMO, but for a measly $1100, I wouldnt buy it. I think it only detects laser and scrables the gun to give you enough time to slow down and shut the system off so you dont get caught... or some stupid shit like that. Honestly its stupid. Why I bothered mentioning this unit is beyond me... I feel dumber now.

If money is available, the Valentine One is the way to go. It's saved my ass countless times. I even bought the accessories for my black car so I can use it without having to switch the unit holder and cig lighter adapter, and hard wired both cars.

The best bang for the buck that I've had the expirence to play with is the detector I currently have. It detects 4 bands, laser and 3 on radar. Around here, cops use K and KA band, X is also detected but I find that X detects many of the business alarms and automatic doors. The range for it is awesome.

Just keep in mind that no detector will prevent you from getting a ticket for speeding, it just acknowledges that there is a cop using his radar or laser gun ahead and you need to slow down. Radar scramblers are illegal in all states, as for a laser, I dont know for sure.

any of these are illegal for use in Canada, except for 3 provinces..BC, Alberta and Saskatchawan? or something.

I'm in Ontario, thats why I was wondering about it. There are people selling them on Ebay and that is definatly where I would be getting one.

I understand that it will not prevent a ticket; that is not what I want anyways. I just want to know when there is a cop in sight, radar or not.

I was looking at the Bel RX65..for $330ish (on their site). Or there is also the Passport 8500 X50 for about the same price...

Tough choice

i've had an escort (who makes the passport) radar detector for forever. never let me down. i love it. also, they've done tests, and supposedly the passport is the best on the market.

no such thing as a radar detector, but there ARE scanners... and some that detect some cops. Trick is, it only works when the cops out of the car. It detects the signal from their personal radio to the cars which then gets sent to the HQ.

funny that there's no such thing as a radar detector. i have one in my car. and it detects radar all the time, and has saved my ass many times. now if you were to say no such thing as a radar jammer, i might agree with you.

You could have 5 radar detectors in your car and it still wouldn't protect you as well as NOT SPEEDING! If you want something fool proof then just avoid the problem altogether. I'm not saying I never speed, but it's just so damn easy to leave 5mins earlier and cruise there rather than try to make up the time.

Little story from the past to put in perspective, the only time I ever noticed a mentionable decrease in travel time from speeding was when I decided to set a fastest pace from Fresno to Visalia. I cut the 45min trip into 28min, but had to book at 120 the whole way. I saved 17mins, which is approx. two cigarettes and a good solid crotch scratch, but if I hadn't been lucky enough that there just weren't cops on the freeway period, no dtector would have saved my ass from a ticket. And besides, poundin out 120mph on the freeway is just flat fuckin stupid!

I have a little Cobra vector, around 99 at circuit city

It has a mile radius 360*angle scan, front and rear mount in center of windshield.

Has a silent mode and one goes by your engine revs.

Works well, helps me save gas, hheavey throttle at times/ plus don't wanna loose my license can't afford to loose it again from Childsupport.
