Anyone know what type of FM modulator I need to hook an ipod? I have a stock mitsu 10 disk cd changer.

New Car:

1998 GS with hrc stage 2, HID 6000k conversion kit, AEM UEGO wideband, sfmu, ml, prokits, Greddy warning gauges: egt, boost gauge, and oil pressure, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, groundwires, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

I tried the Belkin model and I was not impressed with it at all. The sound quality was horrible and I ended up returning it. Here is a link, maybe one of this will work better.

umm idk what brand i have but the sound quality is fine - slightly better than the radio. as good as can be expected on stock stereo/speakers... you don't need one made specifically for an ipod unless you want the ones that have stuff to charge the ipod at the same time built in. but then you could just use a regular ipod charger for that. my modulator actually blocks out the other stations to give the aux source a better signal. i think some modulators do not do this. the downside is you hafta turn off the modulator to listen to the radio. the upside is you get better sound quality.

also mine is a hardwired fm modulator - meaning it goes inline between the antenna and the stereo. some modulators are wireless - they broadcast a weak FM signal to be picked up by your antenna outside the car. obviously this does not give as good results but you don't have to open up your dash to install it.

The one I had was a wireless one and that's why it sounded so bad. I'm sure back in the day you rocked the tape adaptor for you CD player, well it sounded worse than one of those. I have never heard of anything like you described where it was hard wired into it. I know that people up here use the transmitters on their stero in the room and it sounds just fine. I don't know, maybe I just got a bad unit. Good luck.

yea definately don't go wireless. get a hardwired modulator. i'm very happy with mine... until i get an ipod compatible deck that is

that one will be fine. you can prolly get it for like $30-40 somewhere else. circuit city is great but you're paying for their customer service and return policies. with a modulator that's probably not that improtant. they're not very complex and i doubt they break very often... fm modulators work on ANY car with an antenna and a radio. oh and with a 12v power system. that one is good too b/c it's powered so you know it's 'blocking' the other stations to improve the clarity of the aux source.

as far as quality i don't think there's that big a differnce between modulators. as long as it's hard wired and active (not passive) it should be fine. i just bought the smallest one the local audio shop had since the space inside my center console is already crowded with the other goodies i've added.
