I been in to stereo systems for about 10 years now. I will admit I have never taken the time to understand Hz's, frequencies, and bandwidths. I installed this Alpine and it is by far the best unit Ive ever had. It has all these option settings with the above stuff and I just dont understand them.
I just need somebodies help either explaining this stuff to me or if you have this unit, gimme some suggestions. I dont wanna google it or anything, I want to actually be able to chat with somebody about it. I learn better that way. So if somebody that knows there shit will take the time to IM me or something, I will be ecstatic + points.

Excellent choice, alpine is definately top of the line. My head unit is an alpine, its not the same one, one step up from this one and its last years model, but its very similar (only like 3 differences). Alpine pushes out the most wattage of any HU on the market and has the best sound Q i've found. Now, if u'd like i can explain Hz, frequencies, and from what i understand alpine's "bandwidth" to be. My yahoo messenger id is the same as my id on 2gnt. You can add me to ur buddy list and just look for me to get on tomorrow. I usually get on anywhere from 8-9pm, since i'm having so many problems with my timing, so i've been workin late into the nite.
I'll also post it on here, so everyone can get a better understanding of audible frequencies.

Hertz and frequency are basically one in the same. The human ear is capable of recognizing frequencies in the approximate range of 20 hz to 20,000 hz (also known as 20 kHz).
The frequencies are typically as follows:
20-40 hz: deep deep bass. Stuff you can feel, maybe not hear. Few audio systems are able to recreate this region accurately.
40-80 hz: still a deep bass, though you are more likely to be able to hear it and more audio systems will be able to recreate it.
80-150 hz: still a bass, but beginning to get more into the kick drum type of sound rather than a sine wave type of bass.
150-300 hz: This is a range where a lot of audio "mud" resides. An EQ gain in this region will most likely add a little bit of thud or punch, but it is best to cut back a bit to get rid of a "in a box" type of sound.
300-4000 hz: Typical midrange. Telephones operate in the 300-4000 hz range to give you an example of the frequencies in this general range.
4000-10000hz: midrange to high end. Cymbals, Highhats, etc.
10000+ hz: High end sparkle.
Don't take this as gospel, but I think it represents the ranges decently. Hope it helps.

If you've been "into" stereo stuff for 10 years and you don't know what Hz and KHz means or anything about it then you're really not "into" stereo stuff. You just like to think you are.
What Bullox said ^^^ is good info. But here's the stereo equipment side of it.
Speakers are built to handle certain frequency ranges. Say a sub. You don't want full range going to a sub, you want about 80Hz and below. I tend to put 60Hz and below to subs. Same with tweeters, you want nothing below 7500Hz (7.5KHz) going to your tweeters. Any low to mid range will blow them in a heart beat.
Now if you tell me you're running "2-Way 6X9's" you're wasting time with this post. 2-way, 3-way, whatever...they're basically speakers for dummies. In order to get a good sounding system you need to understand component systems, how they work, cross-over points, dba suppression or expression, harmonic resonance, how frequency waves work (not just numbers but physical cosine/sine waves), refraction vs. reflection, interferrance.....the list goes on and on.
I suggest you pick up some books and start reading, or go to a 12volt forum and start looking through the "things we've seen before" threads.

I suggest you scroll up to the top again and read what my post says. I said I havent taken the time to do it. I have been building car audio system for 10 years, I tuned with my ears. Last, I said I didint want to start reading alot of shit. I learn more by chatting online or face to face. Take for instance, 1 post above yours, it was short and to the point and it helped. Now unless youve had a bad day or something, I also suggest you lay off searching in old posts and posting in them just to search for someone to degrade.

If you think I was being "degrading" try pissing me off. I was just giving you some suggestions. And "tuning with your ears" only goes so far bro. So start reading and don't be a dick when someone suggests it to you, you'll learn A LOT.
