I have a 95 Eclipse GS 5 speed. I rebuilt the engine with low compression pistons and forged rods about 30k miles ago. After the initial break in, I did a compression test and got 155 across the board. I had a decent tune using the Hahn portfueler, with a/f readings in the high 11's to low 12's throughout the boost range.
It ran good for a year and a half, at 10-12 psi. We had a local dyno event, and I turned the boost up to 15 psi, hitting 297 hp to the wheels. I could hear an occasional misfire in the upper rpm's while it was on the dyno. Well, over the next 6 months, it slowly got worse until eventually it would misfire through the entire rpm range, when in boost and when not.
I did a compression test and got 125 across the board. NOT GOOD! I then did a wet test, using 2 caps of oil in each cylinder and got readings from 185 up to 240 psi.
So, I'm assuming the rings are shot. If that's the case, I will be parting it out.
I'm done throwing money into it. If I do part it out, there will be loads of great aftermarket parts priced to move. I can't afford to drive my truck all summer.
