If you go to http://www.getg.com/campaigns/request.php?cID=cad110407 , you can download a mail-in-rebate covering the entire cost of a 5-quart jug of G-Oil 5-30W synthetic motor oil. Yes, that means that the oil would be nearly free, with only tax stopping you from true freedom. You have to buy the oil from Walmart (I don't think it's sold anywhere else), and it retails for $26.00 at the store.

A few details about the oil:
G-Oil seems to be a relatively new brand. It is a synthetic motor oil and at the moment it is only available at the 5-30W weight. As a new oil, there's bound to be some hesitation about its reliability and performance, but early reports from oil users have been promising.

A VOA (virgin oil analysis) posted on the "Bob Is the Oil Guy" forums suggested nothing out of the ordinary in the oil, and Blackstone Labs' commentary is that the oil should "serve your engines well." You can find the VOA report at this link: http://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2229345#Post2229345 There is also a lengthy on-going discussion about G-Oil on their forums. Early users have reported that the oil has worked fine so far: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2194774#Post2194774

So, again, here are the steps:
1.) Buy a 5-quart jug of G-Oil 5-30W synthetic from Walmart .
2.) Download MIR form from http://getg.com/caranddriver .
3.) Chuck the form and receipt into the mail and wait 6-8 weeks for your check.

Here's the price break-down:
+$26.00 -- Shelf Price @ Walmart
+$2.15 -- Tax (8.25% in TX; varies by state, of course)
(-$26.00) -- MIR from G-Oil, not sure if it covers tax
--------------
Total = "Free" - Or $2.15 due to tax

As a heads up, the MIR website only lets you print out the form once, and each form generates a "certificate #" so I imagine this is one way how they will track multiple rebate's per household. However, you can use private browsing in Google Chrome to print more forms and under new certificate #'s.

just figured i'd share w/ 2gnt'ers
