I have a shortened stock shifter, and it's great! The positiveness of the shift feel is so much nicer. I cut about 1" to 1 1/8" from the stock shaft. I had my dad TIG-weld it together. No way it's going to break. Cost me nothing. I would have to guess that the Edge shifter would have the shaft shorter but also the piece below the pivot shorter for a different feel, but a short shifter really makes the car a lot more fun.
