Usually a TOB grind or rattle is most noticeable when the car is idling and the clutch pedal is not depressed. When you then go and press the pedal, the noise will dissipate or go away completely.

If you are getting this noise when the pedal is depressed or during shifting, it sounds like you may have a bigger internal issue. Could very well be a result of repeated "power shifting"
