steering colum is a good place, but i find that it is more sensitve on the drivers side of the car. Any place in the center of the car is good, like the center console, and mount it securly to a metal support,bracket, or something solid. Stay away from wire harnesses, this makes the shock sensor very sensitive, and will set off the alarm with loud exausts, loud bass, or thunderstorms. Loud sounds like that actually vibrate the looser things in the car like the wire harnesses, so stay away from that. Just keep the sensor in the center of the car, and mounted on something sturdy and solid...
