#21814, "Picking up a 4G63T today..."

Blown. Free. Not sure what happened, but I'm going to tear it down tonight and try and find the source of the problem. Let the flaming begin after this statement, because, I'm planning on doing a swap with the 420. If its salvageable I'm planning on rebuilding it to stock specs, and, with the help of some other (experienced) guys, turning an RS into a GST...I know its going to be hard. I, no offense to anyone here, hate the 420A...if I'm getting a free block and free labor, I might as well go for a swap...opinions?

3 months from now we're going to see a "Fuck this stupid shit" post followed shortly after with a "FS - Lots of 420/4G63 stuff" thread.

Good luck, you're going to need it.

LMAO, what a waste of money and time. The ONLY swap worth doing on a 2GNT is the 2.4L. If you want a GST, buy one.

Why do people want to attempt this???

Even if by some luck you did get it to work (which probably won't happen), you would still be slower than a stock internalled 420a-t and have spent thousands of dollars in the process. Have fun wasting money.

exactly. if you must tinker with a 4g63, rebuild it and sell it and buy a built gst with all the money you saved not being retarded

You should just swap it in as is (blown). It will accomplish the same thing. A non-running 420a car with a 4g63 in the bay. But this way you'll save money on rebuilding the block first.

So you are still gonna wast money on building an engine you might not use, when you could build the hell out of your 420a and have a better car? Don't make sense...

Good luck.

Have you thought about selling your RS and using that couple grand to pick up a GST with a blown motor? Then put your 4g63 in that after you build it. That would make a lot more sense.

I'm seriously considering that, it would me much easier and I could build the engine the way I want it, but, insurance would rape me...only time will tell what will happen...

This is a myth. As in NOT TRUE.
Call your insurance and get a quote on a GST of the same year as your non-turbo.
The rates are simply not based on whether your car has a turbo or not.

Look at the 1995 ESI (420a) vs. the 1995 TSi (4g63) Talon
The TURBO IS CHEAPER THAN AN IDENTICAL NON-TURBO TO INSURE.
Even comprehensive on a 1995 4g63 is cheaper than comprehensive on a 1999 420a simply because of age.
Having a Talon vs Eclipse makes a much bigger difference than having a 420a vs 4g63!

Sell it and buy a turbo car.

I can give you advice there as well. And if you live in PA, i can even make sure you dont pay an outlandish premium.

That quote did not come from me. I did say something along those lines, but i steer clear of those exact words for the same reason you mentioned. Heard it to many times in the beginning.

No offense taken. You're the one who is about to render his DSM inoperable and be hating life soon. Sorry you hate the 420A. Granted, that's one of the most ignorant fucking things I've ever seen anyone post on this board, but you're entitled to your opinion. Likewise, you asked for ours.

I think this is beyond stupid. Do you know how many people have come before you and said they had "Experts" to help them? Do you know how many people have come before you to state they are "Planning" to do this swap, but end up proving their plan was little more than to make a bunch of stupid posts on our forum asking people who neither have any experience in the swap, nor the interest in trying how to go about doing it before they start bitching and moaning and we have to ban their sorry asses? Do you and your experts have any fucking clue how you're going to mate that "free" 4G63 boat anchor you've got to a New Venture T-350? You make no mention of a Mitsu transmission.

If you really want to destroy your car because of some foolish, ignorant hatred of the engine that powers the vast majority of the 2nd Gen DSMs on the road these days, then, by all means, go right ahead.

I understand what is involved with this swap, and let me change my statement to "I hate my 420A...", it might not even end up in my car. I could just start a project on a 2g GST/X, I'm not completely sure yet (I have read a lot of bad things about cars that have this swap)...I understand the complexity of the journey I'm about to embark upon. I never said I was going to destroy my car. I'm planning on building the engine and doing everything I can out of the car, I will always have my old components, if it doesn't work out I will swap them back before I do any permanent damage.

so why do you hate the 420a? do you really even know anything about it at all?

do you realize that it is a very capable engine with built internals and a turbo kit? what would you accomplish with a 4G63 that you can't with a built 420a? If it's some super high HP number, you're wasting your time with either engine pretty much, because it will still be FWD either way. Not to mention the possibility of crankwalk if the 4G63 is a 7 bolt.

yes, I know a lot about the 420A thanks to you guys, I have been lurking here for 3ish years. I just don't like it for some reason, maybe I'm sick of having the same underpowered engine on a slow ass car for so long (I could probably run an 18 flat). I have considered building it, then realizing that I would need to do a transmission swap (because I was stupid and bought an auto...) I would rather go through the trouble of getting a trashed GST/X and dropping a built 4g63 in it than building my current car.

Please do. You and everyone else will be much happier.

And you'll have at least one if not two fixed DSMs instead of 2 guaranteed destroyed ones.

That 18.5 is just a lil slower than my personal best of 18.3. Yay for an autotragic.

I'm pretty sure I have a new lead on a home for the engine, a 95 TSi AWD for $2000, I'm not sure whats wrong with it though, I haven't had a chance to go look at it yet.

It's a beautiful thing when we all come together to avoid a disaster.

You might also consider rebuilding that 4G63 you got for free, making it look pretty, and then selling it for some profit.

I understand what is involved with this swap,

ummmm no you dont because if you did you would not ask this question here
http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=54176&mode=full

if it doesn't work out I will swap them back before I do any permanent damage.

and how would you do that you have to cut into the subframe to do the motor mounts oh and wiring enlighten us

easy fix hacksaw the front clip off and weld/tape the new gst clip on

We will build you bigger and stronger

Wake up and drive my ass... More like wake up and fix it.

If its salvageable I'm planning on rebuilding it to stock specs, and, with the help of some other (experienced) guys, turning an RS into a GST...I know its going to be hard. i dont get it. if you pretty much knew what 97.5% of the responses would be, why even make a post? you could have avoided a lot of criticism IMO.

if you want to go fast, buy a an awd 1g and swap that engine into that. then when your done getting that done, sell the RS or whatever u have and use that money to make the 1g even faster. no?
