i have a base model 96 eclipse which came from the factory unequipped with a tachometer, i was wondering if its possible to add a tachometer whether it's picking up a new gauge cluster or an aftermarket gauge they both work

I will say right now, I have NEVER seen a base model in real life, thats awesome. What options does it have?

it's relatively plain. manual locks, manual windows, pop up sunroof, comes from the factory with no tachometer, no a/c compressor, no belt tensioner. it's pretty simplistic cosmetically and accessory wise but it has the same engine specs as an rs and gs i believe. the thing with mine that makes it somewhat different than others i see on the streets is my spoiler, all the 2nd gens i see have a real low wing on the back but mine has a real tall one instead. but i'm not overly concerned with how she looks or the accessories i just want her to go fast and run strong. the one thing i really want to do though is get a tachometer wired in so i can make better shifts since at the moment i have no clue where i'm shifting at.

Pop up sunroof? Sounds aftermarket. I've never seen a pop up on any 2g unless it was aftermarket. I can't imagine them just "throwing them on" this base 2ga.
Throw some pics up on here. Just use the img code with direct link to uploaded picture.

Just find yourself a gauge cluster from an RS or GS of the same year. Note that there is a difference in the tach of a manual vs an automatic. Just be careful if you intend to sell the car in the future, you don't want to get nailed for odometer fraud.

you could pop the speedometer out of your old cluster and put it in the new one you get with the tach. ( to keep the odometer correct if the new one isnt close enough)
(its 4 screws once you take off the clear lense and black overlay.)

will do, my buddy was researching this as well and found out that it should be relatively simple even if i decide to put in an aftermarket tachometer, apparently i'll the wires and everything are still there
