Hey guys... just wondering if you guys feel that buying the turbo, tuning it constantly, and worrying about detonation and other tedious little things like that was a good investment? I mean, is it all worth it? Just want to know.. cuz I really want to go turbo.. but I hear about so many incidents that lead to spending more and more money.. Something I don't think I'm willing to do.. I know I'm gonna spend a wad amount of cash for the kit and bottom end build up itself but not too much ya know? Thanks in advance guys.. just wanna hear opinions.. if you were an NT again.. would u buy the turbo still knowing the affects (good or bad)? And if you can, how much did you guys spend so far on the "must have" things?

Two words "HELL YES!!". I don't regret turboing for one second. It doesn't require as much attention as you think. If you take your time and do the installation right, tune the car properly, and don't run too much boost then your car should run fine. As far as the bottom end goes, it's not mandatory. I still have the stock bottom end in my engine and it's still holding together fine. Don't get me wrong, building the bottom end is a good idea, just not essential. One thing that you will have to invest in is a clutch. I just scrapped mine about 2 mos. ago. The stock one held ok for about a year (a hard year) after the turbo but it finally let go. I ran NOS before the turbo and it was fun, but it pales in comparison to my hairdryer. If your still uncertain there is one sure fire way to make up your mind, ride in a turbo Eclipse. Better yet, drive one. Once you feel it you'll know for sure. Good luck.

I'm with BLKOUT..even though I have the STAR stage 2 kit, turboing the 420A is great!! Literally took 3 whole seconds of my 1/4 mile time!! As far as maintenance its not all that tedious. I basically take a look under the hood every weekend just to make sure everything is checking out okay and no hoses or what have you are about to blow off. If you take the time and do the installation right and stay within the recommended boost levels, you shouldn't experience any problems. I did have to build-up my bottom end, but that was caused through my own ignorance, i.e. not backing off on the racing while I hadn't fixed my vacuum leak which was causing me to run a lean mixture. Personally speaking, I used to get worked by GSRs and Sis, now I wipe my ass with them. I don't even consider them in the same class anymore....I'm rolling with the modded V8's now!! I don't even get that many races anymore b/c I've been told that seeing the FMIC and pulling along side and hearing "ppppfffsssstttt" is pretty intimidating.....its great!!

Hey guys (Joe and Patrick)..

Thanks for the input.. I really appreciate that!! Especially the "HELL YEA" part.. I was kinda iffy about getting a turbo because of all the blown motors and thousands of dollars spent.. I guess I just wanted to hear some more good things about it.. I wanted to go turbo since the first time I found out about the 2 kits for our cars. All it takes is not being ignorant right? And good maintenance.. But yea.. I'm really looking into this.. I have ridden in my friend's Galant VR-4 and my friend's Supercharged MR-2.. And I love the feeling of boost!! And all of them keep asking me when I'm going to get my turbo.. I said "soon, don't worry." So yea.. My mind is made up for sure this time.. Joe- Cool spoiler! I get the same exact one last year.. I like how your car looks man! Patrick- Cool car color! Got the same thing on my 97.. Black looks so dope when it's clean don't it? haha.. Both your cars are sweet especially cuz they "GOT BOOST!!" Thanks guys..

Allan

Hopefully I'll have a picture up soon. . .

I would like to say that, if you havent found out yet you will. anything you do to a DSM is going to cost you some cash!!!!!!. So to a certain point you need to be ready and willing to drop some $$$$ every once and a while. I have had over 17 cars in my 15 years of driving, and aside from my Porache and my RX7 this is the most Exspensive car I have had. Some will at first disagree, and maybe even reply with their opinons, but after they think about all the S%$T they have spent, most will agree. Maybe not all though. The biggest way to combat the cost of maintaing and upgradeing with these cars, is doing all or most of the install work yourself. Then and only then can and will it be affordable(for me that is).
P.S dont get me wrong:
I LOVE my car and it may be the the most costly, it is the BEST one yet.
SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!MWC
