Anyhoo I'm about to start an EVOIII swap on sunday/mon/tues till whenever but i'm concerned about a popping sound I get from the tranny/axles (I think).
Basically, it pops when the vehicle goes into motion, or when the momentum changes (off throttle to engine braking, for example).
Both sides also pop very loudly (is that a word? )when I hit a pothole under hard-ish acceleration or braking. Just recently had the ball joint recall done, both lower control arms were replaced (god bless Satan, for once)
I dont' think this is related, but I get crazy grind in reverse also(syncros I think)
Any ideas? Thanks!
Matt

Sounds like an axle. Mine does it too... Doers it click when you turn a corner? I know mines on its way out. When I take off from a stop it makes a pop/click noise Take a look under the car and see if the boots are ripped on the axle. If they are thats probably what it is.

Ive done it on like 3 different cars, all basically teh same idea. The hardest part is usually the but nut that holds the axle on. Lots 'O PB Blaster on it and leave it sit for a while to get in there and do its work and It should come off with an Impact gun. Once thats done its fairly easy.

Check the CV Joints. Popping and click usually tells you they are on the way out. Basically inspect the suspension for anything looking out of order. Do you have any torn CV boots?

I haven't seen any but I haven't looked any harder than when I check the oil. Should I take the wheel off to be sure, or can you usually tell by just looking underneath with the car raised?
I"m thinking my front shocks are probably close to shot, seeing as I just replaced the rears about 8 months ago (long story, don't ask)
but I'm not sure this would explain the problem at all...i'll take a look at it tomorrow morning (its about to rain here )
