Looking to replace my oil pan gasket for '96 tsi awd. Anyone have a complete writeup, down to what gasket sealer to use and how?

Remove down pipe, unbolt oil pan and remove. I think you dont even need to remove the down pipe but it makes it easier.

take all the bolts out, crack open the seal ever so slightly.(you don't want to bend the pan)

Gasket and RTV I would assume. I've heard of people using just RTV with no problems...

4g oil pans can be a bitch to get out. Drop the DP without question and also undo the carrier bearing from the back of the block from the driver's halfshaft in oder to allow some wiggle room. Some people recommend takign the driver's halfshaft off as a way to make it easier guaranteed, but if you don't you can get the pan off without too much hassle but it'll take time and patience.

It's running again shitheads.
