#2846, "clanking from front right wheel?????????"

OK in the last couple days i've noticed that when i hit a bump, the front right of my car makes a clanking like metal hitting metal noise. Well i did my powerslots a few weeks ago, and bent the dust cover on this wheel, and took it off, but i don't know why it would rattle. Can anyone help me on this. I'm hopefully getting koni yellows soon so i can get my weapon-r coilovers on finally =) so if it's the suspension, it'll be fixed soon, otherwise im clueless.

Is it a hard clunking or a tinny clang? If it sounds like a thing metal hitting, then it may be the dust shield. However, if it's a hard clunk (which I'm assuming it is) then it's probably the ball joint. You should get those checked ASAP if so.

Well like i said, i don't think it is the dust sheild because i took it off, i just don't know if it loosened anything removing it. Also yes it is a pretty hard clunk, kinda sounds like my friends car, and he has a broken spring (i don't think mine is broke tho). I think i am one of the recall ones, so would they hafta fix it for me? Also have i done anything that will cancel the warranty or what ever it is to get the ball joint fixed? All i've done with front suspension/handling is powerslot rotors, metal master pads, and my rims, will they complain about these?Deze

my Talon makes a clunking noise too, but it's coming from the left front. I found out that the CV joint is cracked and leaking (that's what I was told anyway). Check yours, just incase. I wonder if the cracked CV joint has anything to do with the ball joint recall?

I must have mis-understood you about the heat shield. I would have to say that is most likely the ball joint. The mods that you have wouldn't have anything to do with the ball joint going bad. If your dealer doesn't want to cover it then I would check around, because they should do it with no probs.

Jen- usually the CV's only make noise when you turn. What were you told was cracked, the housing? If you have a cracked CV I would get it replaced ASAP. A CV can come apart at anytime and this is not a pretty site. Best case scenario is it happens at home and you get it fixed pretty easy. Worse case scenario, well just imagine you driving down the highway at about 80 and your front axle decides to drop out. Not a good thing.

SH$T! (Sorry) I guess I really need to take care of that, huh? I just got an exhaust put on and the check engine light came on, so my BF checked the O2 sensor and mentioned a crack in the CV joint and that it was leaking... Anybody know how hard it would be to replace and how much?

Thanks Joe!

check the motor mounts too, (they're easy to check and fairly easy to change) if one is bad it can make a vibration or other strange noises and sound like it's coming from the wheel area, especially if you're taking corners

i had a clankin noise that was also comin in when i turned the wheel, turned out to be the wheel bearing assembly. to check it lift that end and wiggle the wheel if you and wiggle it a good amount it needs to be changed, if you can see your rotors wigglin around you should change QUICKLY before your wheel falls off and before you strip down your axle threads
