#3674, "Gear Speeds"

Hey guys,
I searched this a tad and can't find any direct answers. I Just bought this 97 eclipse manual and need to know a few things. It seems like im at a higher RPM than I should be in all gears.

In 5th gear @ 65-70mph im at 3k, does this sound right? And in 4th gear at the same speed im at about 2500-3000.

I remember in my automatic I could go almost 80mph without touching 3k, obviously autos are different than manuals. But shouldn't they be geared relatively the same?

I also noticed that the transmission is painted...so it's rebuilt/replaced/worked on wahtever. The dealer wasnt sure. Shady I know but it shifts perfectly. Could someone have installed some weird gearing it before me on purpose or accident?

So the question is, what are ya'lls speeds on relatively stock manuals

1st
2nd
3rd
4th
5th

Thanks guys!

Joseph

There are no shorter gears that can be installed. Such does not exist. Could be tire sized related.

See Main Site -> FAQ -> Manual Trans. Our trans is the same gear-wise as a DOHC ACR.

ya, 3k at 65-70 is right for 5th but one way to test it is

1st tops at 30mph
2nd tops at 60mph
3rd tops at 95-100mph
4th tops at 130-140mph
5th higher (theareticly, i found it should get to about 170-180 going at high rpms just by judging the differance in 100-110-120 pictures)

this is at 7k rpm
