So what does it do!? I know what a normal one does, but what does getting a higher stall TC do for a car? I'm kinda in and out of the shade on this one. Have an idea, but need a good explanation before i start thinking about saving up for one!

Basically, with a stock convertor, the engine revves to a certain RPM before the car takes off (stall). If you get a higher stall convertor, the car revves to a high RPM before taking off. Therefore you get quicker take-offs and get into your powerband faster. IMO well worth the money. I know that my auto is slow as hell and could use one.

So say you're at a redlight, everyday driving. You push the gas wont the car not go anywhere until that converter reaches its stall speed, or is it just unnoticeable. Id imagine youd get used to pushing the gas faster/harder each time but isnt that what would happen. The engine would rev until the TC "stalled" and the engine moved?

u will get some power at the lower rpm's with the high stall speed converter if u take off slow...other wise ud have no power for highway driving at under say 3000 rpms...it only hammers down if u punch the gas, thats when u wont really notice anything till 3000 then all hell breaks lose, i got it all explained to me by a performance shop owner yesterday.complex shit..

a torque convertor stall speed should match where your car is making the most torque. So say your car is making most of its torque at 3200 rpms, then typically you want a TC with a stall speed of 3200.
The way to test what your stall speed is now is to go from a dead stop and just hammer it, if your looking at your tach you will see it jump to the stall speed of your TQ. <--thats the correct way to determine your stall speed
Stock for stock the TQ has a set stall speed, but in reality once you start making more power your stall speed has actually changed. Some cam makers will actually tell you what your stall speed should be with their cam.
But you should never try to see the stall speed by holding down the gas and the brake andseeing where the rpms stop at, thats VERY bad for yoour tranny <-thats called brake stall and is bad to do
Ive been all over the web looking for a solid description of what stall speed is and how it really effects your car/etc.. and so far no one really has a clear description of what it is, even on the sites like protorque,etc their descriptions are rather vague. Stall speed is a misunderstood thing by many..

for everyday driving a high stall isnt really the best thing to have. a track only car will benefit from it. honestly we arent making any sorts of power. 3000 rpms or 2200 its still under 100hp and not warranted. for turbos this is a worth while mod
