Just get a small flat blade screw driver and pry on the edge of the speaker grill. It will pop right out. It's not held in there very tightly. Taking the dash off would be a lot of unnecessary work.

Does anyone know what size they are, will 3" or 3 1/2 speakers fit in there?

3s won't fit. I hear a few people have, but I can't imagine they're in there very well. I suppose if you pulled the dash, and mounted them you could, but is it really worth it for 3 1/2s??? just slap a new set of tweets, and a set of 6 1/2" mids in the doors.
