#4729, "2 ohm stable?"

Is there a general rule as to how you know if an amp is 2 ohm stable? Will it just say "2 ohm stable" ..... Sorry for the stupid sounding question - just trying to figure this all out! Thanks for the help!

As far as I know you just have to read the specs that came with the amp...

They will be listed if they are. I have run an alpine that isn't listed at 2 ohms stable for like 8 months at 2 ohms with no problems. I also burnt out a shitty pyramid like 5 years ago at 2 ohms.

Yep it should say it in the specs. 2ohm stable means 2ohms stereo. Which means you will only be able to run a 4ohm mono load (bridged). I don't think I ever heard of an amp not being 2ohm stable.

Usually you want a 1 ohm stable amp. If you have two 4 ohm subs wired in parallel, you will get a 2 ohm load. But if you bridge your amp, then it will only see 1 ohm, which is why you would need a 1 ohm stable amp. It should say on the amp or in the spec sheet...

Your specs should tell you at what loads it is stable at ie 4 OHM steroe, 2OHM mono, or 4OHM stereo, 2OHM stereo, 4OHM mono.....it all depends what it is rated at....if it is rated for 2OHM mono then you can run 2 4OHM subs bridged to get a 2OHM load, but if it is rated for 4OHM mono then you will need to get 2 8OHM subs to bridge it mono....what kind of amp is it, that will help out alot.....

Not true! That is if you wire them in parallel. You can also run two 2ohm subs wired in series.

I had 3 12 ohm 10's running 4 ohms in a parallel hookup. You don't need just 2 8 ohm subs.
