Hey guys, I just installed a Turbonetics TO4E with the water jacket I guess about 3 weeks ago to replace the SC61, which didnt have a water jacket. Well the weather is starting to get warmer here in PA and Im noticing that under boost(17psi), Im noticing that Im overheating. It actually pinned the stock gauge twice and the laptop(MegaSquirt) read 214 at one point.

Now to my question. You guys with turbo's with water jackets, where did you pull for your feed and return lines for the turbo? I pulled from the "T" at the lower rad hose and the end of the same hard line that wraps around the head. Could this be my prob? I figure I pull from one single flowing line, it should travel through the turbo with no hesitation then return to main line.

Cooling wise I didnt change anything else except a new stat. I dont know maybe the stat is slightly sticking? The reason I say sticking is because sometimes I can watch the stock guage start to get hot, then the stock guage all of the sudden will just drop to normal.

This was all done along with an upgraded head change, but everything with that is fine, no leaks, no burning anything and the comp is fine.

Lastly, I did notice 2 or 3 times that the fan wasnt running when it shouldve been, but most of the time its running just fine. Tonite I overheated, so I popped the hood right away to check the fan and it was running.

Well I have never hooked up a water cooled turbo. but the way you have it hooked up, it sounds like your water return coming off of the turbo is going toward the heater core, when it should probably go toward the radiator.
Turn on the heat next time it is overheating and see if temps dont fall.


Also you might want to look into the radiator fan jumper modification. I found it doing a search one time and it worked for me.

Basically you jumper center pin to center pin on 2 of the radiator relays (cant remember which 2). This causes both fans to come on together. Which means if the motor turns on the primary, then the secandary will power on. And on the flip side if you turn on your AC (thus powering on the secondary fan) both fans will kick on.

Its all good now, it ended up being the stat stuck open.

I did realize though that the way I had the turbo hooked up to the coolant lines was actually putting hot coolant back into the cool side of the rad that feeds the water pump....duh, lol.

Anyways, its all good now. All I have to do now is remember to bolt the lower hard line that goes into the water pump back to the block so it doesnt blow off anymore and make a huge mess, lol.

it seems to me that most people use the heat hose right about the manifold where to feed and return...they take the hose off of the side closest to the tstat housing and run a line from that line to feed the turbo and return it to the other side of the heater hose that is still open...try searching for watercooled turbos in the search engine I'm sure you'll find what you need.. thats where I saw pics of what I just described.

wow, I guess I was wrong about that. Sorry dude.

and about the jumper fan mod, all I did was splice both fan and connect both of them into the driver side fan connector...works great but I also but two 12" fans in front of the radiator. instead of behind it.more room that I desperately needed. my car has never ran cooler.
