Alright I have heard people say this many times, but I want to know, what does "brake boost" mean in this situation, and how do you do it? (I took this excerpt from www.dsmsource.com)

st race. 40 roll.
I brake boosted and we both took off at the same time. I put about a car or so on him but somehow missed 4th. he pulled back.

2nd race. 40 roll.

He got the jump, I spun BAD.then i started to pull back around 110. then we shut down.

3rd race. 60roll.

Agian i brake boosted. and got terrible spin till about 80mph he got the jump. then the tires caught and we stayed even. he didnt pull and more. and i didnt pull back.

"Brake boosted" in this instance probably means something more along the lines of "power braking," which is to lock the brakes and rev the motor to the stall limit of the converter which will build boost at a stop on an automatic car.

Google can help you further.

You hold down your brakes, while at the same time in the lowest gear possible, floor the gas pedal. It puts a load on the motor and supposedly makes you reach full boost faster.

probably a lot better method to launch a auto car rather than the "neutral drop" don't ever do this! when I was 16 me and my friend were in his dads v8 Lincoln and popped a drive shaft pulling shit like that

I'm rather confused. He's mentioning brake boosting, which is done from a stop, yet we know he started the race at 40mph,60mph and again at 60mph. He also mentioned having terrible traction until 80mph???? whats he in....a turbo civic hatch??? I dont know many people with traction issues at 80mph....definitely no one running an ATX 2GNT

I have a 98 procharged trans am auto that has traction problems up to about 80

I've driven a Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo diesel that had traction issues at 80mph (of course it was on a graveled road). lol :)

But yeah, break boosting sounds rediculously hazardous on a tranny so it's dumb to do IMO, just mod to make the turbo spool faster.

Brake boosting is actually a good way to launch and auto car. Builds boost at the line instead of after the launch.

They're talking about roll races here, not launching. Since your turbo system has vacuum until you build up boost by spooling the turbo, brake boosting in this case does the following...say you're rolling at 40 in second gear. You slowly start applying the brakes, while at the same time giving more gas to keep your speed close to that 40. Thus doing so, your brake booster which indeed also works off of vacuum is working harder...blah blah blah, you are removing vacuum from the system, eventually crossing the threashold of atmospheric pressure and in turn actually spooling up the turbo and building boost. Your turbo starts to whine, you build up 10psi or whatever, then when you hear the third honk or what not, you let off the brake and away you go. You won't have lag or build up time because you're already in boost, depending on the power of the motor, how big the turbo or what not, and how much boost you build, you could indeed loose traction even at a roll as stated above.

Well if it is causing a loss of traction, it doesn't seem to be much of an advantage. For that particular kid at least. I'll have to try this out.

Brake boosting isn't rediculously bad on your tranny. Yes it creates a great deal of heat(which most serious atx owners already added a tranny cooler) but its no more damaging that launching a mtx. The more often you do it in a short amount of time, the higher your risks.

I meant it really sounds bad for the brakes too. Just not something I'd jump at doing I guess.

I never had a problem with traction like that due to the 3:55 gearing :thumbsup

Anywho, don't knock it till you try it lolz. I'm not saying it's uber awesome and won't hurt anything at all, but damn if it's nice to pull on an awd car right when you punch it instead of having to catch up hehe
