99579, 400+ whp potential... (a bit long)
Posted by CodeR, Mar-29-07 05:24 PM
Alright, I was gonna post this thread just to get some input on my setup. Now the one person who has been helping me build this all along is amazing with forced induction vehicles, and he believes that this thing should be putting down between 400 - 500 whp. Now, i know everyone and their mother on this forum says/believes that anything over 400+whp is damn near impossible.

So...that is why i just want some input from you guys. Now keep in mind this is not something i have though up over night. I have spent the past 2 years worth of sweating, bleedling, frustration, researching and dumping an a** load of money into this car. Please dont assume im some BANME! asking stupid, obvious questions...because im not. Now...let me know what you all think of my setup.

BOTTOM END:
-Weisco 8.8:1 sluggs (.20 overbore)
-Eagle rods w/ ARP bolts
-Melling Oil pump
-Clevite 77 series main and rod bearings
-AFX underdrive pulley
-ARP main stud kit
-polished crank
-all rotating assembly race balanced

TOP END:
-Stage III port and polish Head w/5-angle valve job
-Crower springs
-Crower titanium retainers
-Crower Stage II turbo grind cams
-PEP stainless steel oversized valves (+1mm)
-SBI rockers
-SBI lifters
-Fidanza adjustable cam gears
-ARP head stud kit
-ARP exhaust studs
-Cometic headgasket

TRANSMISSION:
-New Venture T350 3.55 final drive trans.
-SPEC aluminum flywheel
-SPEC stage 3+ clutch w/billet pressure plate
-Phantom grip LSD
-SS braided clutch line

IGNITION:
-MSD DIS-2 Programmable ignition system
-MSD 3-Bar MAP sensor
-MSD coilpack
-MSD 8.5mm wires

COOLING:
-FAL Dual slim-fan kit
-180 degree thermostat

FUEL/INTAKE
-CoolingMist water/methanol injection system
-Extrude Hone Level II port and polished stock intake manifold
-57mm throttle body
-Hahn Portfueler system
-stock primary injectors
-650cc secondary injectors
-Aeromotive 1:1 FPR
-Walbro 255lph fuel pump

ENGINE MANAGEMENT:
-PocketLogger Datalogging PDA
-Zeitronix Datalogging wideband 02
-Greddy Profec B spec II boost controller
-Greddy Turbo timer

TURBO SETUP:
-Polished Borg-Warner S256 Turbo
-Treadstone Racing Cast turbo manifold (ceramic coated)
-38mm Tial Wastegate
-HKS SSQ blow off valve
-Large front mount
-3" V-band downpipe
-3" Straight pipe
-3" Catback exhaust
-screamer "open" dump tube
-SS oil feed and drain lines

MISC.:
-EGR elminated
-Prothane engine mount kit
-power grounding kit
-battery located to trunk

Now, i know i didnt have to list everything, but i did for the hell of it. Mt throttle body is going to restrict power seeing its the size of a straw...and i dont feel like messing around the the intake manifold for a bigger TB at the moment. Let me know what you all think...my dyno is scheduled for the 24th of april. My goal is to hit 400+ whp on 93 octane, but we'll see how far she goes before it doesn't like it anymore. Thanks for your input and any suggestions.

Nice setup. I see no reason why you can't acheive your goal of 400-500 HP. If you start having trouble getting it to produce much more than 400-450... then start opening up your intake and exhaust. It'd also be nice to adjust the spark advance... there's a lot of hidden power in the timing. If you're sticking with 93 octane though, you'll probably be retarding the timing if anything. Good luck and keep us updated!

If you have got the money I would drop that cast manifold and make a equal length, you could possible pick up some more power right there.

personal preference but with all the $ in it.. should dump the phantom grip and get a quaife or Retrofit.

Also for the ammount of HP you are looking for I see no modification list for any important elements that will help you put that power to the ground, and also stop you once you get going.. axles, shox, springs, breaks..
I hope you just forgot to list those. :)

At the moment im just trying to see the numbers I can achieve on this setup. At some point i will have an equal length turbo manifold made, but there are other things i need to take car of first.

The phantom grip isn't the best, but it will do the job for now. Remember, i posted this thread for input on the power potential...not everything on the car all together. And yes, i do have "break" and suspension upgrades...but i have brand new stock axles in right now. I dont really care if they break...i just want them to last for the dyno. Then i'll probably buy some drive shaft shop axles. Thanks for the input so far guys.

Says who? I've been here eight years and that's a new one on me.

400wHP on pump is hard, but not impossible.

That was an error on my part, I mean't 400+whp on 93 octane.

I would think twice about the Tb get a jeep 60mm. nice setup but your Tb is one big bottle neck.

My car is good for 400 on 93 with a decent tune im pretty sure. Haven't hit the dyno in a couple years, but i will once I get this new trans in this spring. Hell it made like 340 or so at the wheels while filling the shop with smoke on a 8-injector setup. buried the fucking o2 reading.

I don't see much for engine management on your list, btw.

It may not be in a category labeled "engine management", but i do have engine management stuff taken care of. I have the HRC portfueler for control of fuel, DIS-2 programmable with map sensor for full control of ignition, and the zeitronix wideband 02 with the full datalogging package (boost, EGT, etc.). Not to mention...I also have a PDA with pocketlogger and zeitronix datalogging installed as well.

I could have gone with the megasquirt, but I just dont have the time right now to play and learn to tune it myself. I wanted something that dyno tuners were somewhat familiar with. I made a phone call to a couple dyno places and nobody at the time wanted to mess with the megasquirt either. The place that the car is getting dyno'd at has tuned many setups with the portfueler, and they have been pleased with the outcomes along with their customers.

...BTW, i just bought a bored 60mm jeep TB. So now i wont have a straw for a TB anymore...now i can feed as much air as this beast needs.

If your horsepower goals are so lofty, and you're at the point where you need full fuel and spark control, why not just bundle it all together and use MSnS-E? I can understand some people's aversion to it, but I was just curious why you chose not to go that route...

Oh...believe me, i did want to go that route. I would be nice to have the laptop plugged into one device instead of three different ones...but i just wish i had the time and devotion needed to get the megasquirt up and running properly. With my shitty schedule as it is, i have one day a week where i can put 5 hours or more of work into my car.

If i could just quit work and school...and not pay any of my bills...and get rid of the pain in the ass girlfriend....i would have all the time i need to play with the megasquirt. Unfortuneatly, "life" isnt that easy...so i pretty much have to deal with what i got. Im sure at some point i will want to change over to the MS...but for now i want to see how this setup runs.

Very nice set up man. My money is on 370-385 wheel. Also what kind of dyno are you going to?

Actually its making good numbers NA that we say is hard around here.

I'm liking what you got on paper. I don't think the 1mm valves are needed but no big deal. I'm glad you're going 60mm (I'm sure you are to). I know you said just the power but since you listed the drivetrain stuff I'll tell you that you stand a real good chance of being pissed off/disappointed with the Spec. Do a quickie search on it.

Is outside Boston too far for you? Excellent tuner for MSnS there (Matt at Dentsport). Does them as standalones. I feel ya on the search for a tuner who wants to handle MSnS. Nobody around here wanted to play with it.

Good luck on the build (and your goals).

Ohh....im already pissed off with SPEC as it is. I spent close to $1200 on a clutch and flywheel combo. ($450 aluminum flywheel, $750 Stage 3+ with billet Pressure plate) The clutch is already falling apart...god it pisses me off just thinking about it. Just on 8lbs of boost...i can hammer through first and second gear and it will hold just fine....but as soon as you shift to third and put the pedal down, it would slip. I did a strong fourth gear pull down the street the other day almost to redline, and it held just fine. I called SPEC about it...and they were as useful as the retards working at the Dunken Doughnuts up the street.

I was told to "give it more break-in time", when it has about 1100 miles on it now. So i am being gentle with it giving it one last hope. Hopeing that a miracle will happen and the cluch will hold. But i am not going to hold my breath on this one.

My sentiments exactly! And my anger started about 1 1/2 years ago, and I'm still pissed!

Good luck with that.
