9948, Lowering EGT's Posted by Erik, Nov-21-01 03:12 PM
Hey I'm bored a little and was wondering. I'm getting ready to redo my exhaust and get the starion IC going. Is any of this going to help lower my EGT's? I'm pegged right about 1450 @ 5 psi. Kinda makes a little nervous. I'm shooting for an AFC and some injectors(any news with WHAT injectors from domestics plug and play) for X-MAS and I know that will help. Any thoughts?

I don't think 1450 is a high EGT (if its in the exhaust manifold). I actually aim for 1550 or so. I run a good 1400 just cruising up a mountain on the interstate...1500 if I boost a little (2-3 psi). I'm not an EGT expert, but I'd worry about running too rich if my EGTs dropped below 1450.

I must be just paranoid b/c my autometer gauge goes to 1600. 1450 is more than 3/4's of the way around. Well than I guess it's back to working for the fun stuff. Oh any idea on what injectors are direct fit? LS1 or LT1 were the last I heard of the subject. Stan? anybody?

I believe getting a better flowing exhuast system reduces EGTs, I wouln'dt know for sure because don't have one :( How easy is it to install the probe? I wanna get one with a SAFC next year. Not sure about the intercooler, but sounds like it will also.

Putting in the probe was pie, Hades. I forgot what sizes I used but all you have to do is: 1. find drill bit about the size of the probe(a little smaller if not sure) 2. Drill your hole in the #4 runner(closest to driver side) 3. Figure out what pitch the thread is on you probe (no your other probe) and get a tap for it. If you have a tap and die set(really useful) just use a die to figure out what the pitch is if you don't have a pitch gauge. 4. Tap the biotch (manifold) being really carful and slow. Use oil or wd-40 and work your down a little and back up and down(well you know the routine) until it's threaded. 5. Screw your probe in. BTW TAKE OFF THE MANIFOLD BEFORE YOU START!!!! It's just easier and safer. Why spend 100 bones on a gauge that will keep your engine safe and than fill your engine full of all sorts of shavings. Please can anybody tell me compatible injectors?

if you do the drilling with the car idling, the exhaust will blow all the shavings out...just be careful you dont get hit in the eye with a metal shaving.
I did mine last wednesday night before i went home for thanksgiving. felt unsafe on my first long trip w/o an egt so i just did it.
